don't know if this has already been thrashed out here.... but what age would you let your child out alone knowing they have to cross a fairly busy (single carriageway) main road with no zebra crossings etc???

I suppose it depends on various things like parked cars, time of day (traffic/light), weather (poor visability), where the child was going (poss lapse in judgement if rushing?), what the child was wearing (visability again), bends, child's experience of walking and road crossing, the presence of other children, eyesight/hearing of child, ability to judge speed/distance etc.
Probably somewhere between 7/8 and 11/12.

Depends on the child and how aware they are, among other things.

My DS1 has been doing this since he turned 10 and started walking to school without me (but with a friend).
