Found out today, after forking out £470 on valuation and ringing solicitors and estate agents like loons, I know its only a house, but I wanted it sooooooo bad!
Now DP and I are snapping at each other and arguing!
Someone cheer me up! (or slap me)

The whole house was infested with mice and the next door neighbours hold swinging parties every Friday.

We got gazundered (little weasel b*stard vendor suddenly demanded another 8k and we told him to shove it up his ass) for the first flat we tried to buy.

I was devastated - had already mentally moved in and decorated and all that.

Three months later we found another, larger flat, in the same nice road, for 3k less. And weasel-boy didn't sell for another year

I know how gutting it is, but there's a nicer place out there for you, and SOMETHING about that house would have driven you mad, and now you'll never need to know what it was.

it's meant to be, think of it that way.

slightlystressed · 15/01/2010 20:18

thanks it was massivly expensive and needed alot work, so there wont be that stress!
We're talking about still selling our house and moving abroad now!
Probably wont happen but its cheering me up!

stillfrazzled is absolutely right, as crap as you feel right now, i absolutely promise you that the house you buy will be so much better than the one you've just lost. I know it sounds a bit woo, but i've always held that houses come to you, not the other way around. It'll be ok, you'll find the house of your dreams!

EcoMouse · 15/01/2010 20:26

I lost out on my first house (gazundered! Is that what it's called?) and felt devastated.

...six months later I bought a much larger and all 'round nicer property, at 2/3 the price of the one I'd lost

MyNameIsInigoMontoya · 15/01/2010 21:26

We got gazumped and then un-gazumped again as the other people's sale fell through, we're now living in the house we nearly lost so don't give up hope yet! If you are still interested, let the agents know to keep you informed if anything changes. But if not, you may find something that suits you better anyway.

We lost out on one of those 'sealed bids' things - before someone told me that you just put '£500 more than the other offer' etc (we had recently moved back to the UK). I was gutted, and had to walk past the house every day. Six months down the line we found a nicer house in an area with better schools etc.

BigBadMummy · 16/01/2010 13:39

I thought gazumping was illegal but having just gone off to Google it, appears it is allowed.

What a pain in the arse, especially as you are now out of pocket.

In years to come you will see it as a blessing because the house you eventually buy will be fabbier than that one.

for you now though.

Thandeka · 16/01/2010 13:48

wow we found out same yesterday too. Friday seems to have been a day for it.

Our sellers decided they wanted 27.5k more for ours so have decided to put it back on market- knowing full well I am about to give birth any day now and having agreed our offer 6 weeks ago and we also will lose money on mortgage fees etc.

Just keep swearing a lot - I'm finding that helps. (also am having secret plans to arrange a viewing at that house giving a false name and making sure my waters break all over their cream carpets!)

Hope you find somewhere better and cheaper soon and hope your vendors never sell! I have same wish for us!
