To want to cry at this? (ASD related)

I've seen/ heard interviews with the dad from this and every time I do it makes me want to cry my eyes out! I don't have any experience of ASD other than children at school but it just breaks my heart!

I know a lot about autism and it certainly is a great story..
I am not sure though what bit you are crying about.

Loads of us have children with profound ASD. Most of us cannot take our children to Mongolia. And the strap line - How far would you go to heal someone you love - really , really fucks me off.

I just get a bit fed up that most of us are endlessly made to feel if we just tried a bit harder......

Yes nice film but that "fucks me off" as well. I feel blamed enough as it is.

Apparently there is a "horse course" run in Wales too. I've recorded the film but not watched it yet.

MintyCan · 14/01/2010 10:31

Starlight just summed up how I feel, nothing more to say

benfmsmum · 14/01/2010 10:36

Yes the film was on tv a couple of months ago I think. As I say I recorded it but have yet to get time to watch it, my asd ds takes up all my tv watching time I used to have!!!!

He has just this second been on Womens Hour on Radio 4 talking about it and horse camps he runs in Scotland.

He didn't give the impression of false hope to me... and said that the fees are means tested so they don't turn away people if they can't afford it. Also he said they are applying for charitable status to help people on low incomes.

Thats a good thing isn't it?

BigusBumus · 14/01/2010 10:44

Heres the link to Womens Hour Listen Again.

Its still showing yesterdays programme, but presumably if you save the link it will change to todays at some point.

Sorry Starlight I didn't mean to offend anyone, its the first time i have heard of this man and his son and I don't have a child with any Autism Spectrum problems.

But i was very interested in the story of this and turned up the radio when i was cleaning the kitchen to listen to it.

He DID say that this is not a "cure", but he said something about the therapeutic benefits are to do with being in a forest / out with nature and not having the stimulus overload of classrooms and the like. There was a doctor on there too who said much the same thing.

Again, apols if i said the wrong thing.

Im not sure how i feel about this tbh, I mean suggesting that ASD needs healing or can be, is a real slap in the face for most parents. And why not just buy the kid some horses, why take him on a trip, scarce the hell out of him, force him to endure ritials (sp??) and then film it?

lisad123wantsherquoteinDM · 14/01/2010 11:35

most parents with children are aware there can be benifits to animal therpy of sorts, dogs, cars, rabbits, horses, i dont see this as a new idea
