to be disappointed that the lovely snow is to be replaced by sodding rain?

Every year I complain that I could cope with winter if it wasn't so fecking "wet". I hate endless days of drizzle or lashing rain.

The snow, however inconvenient it may be wrt school closures, slow driving conditions etc improves my mood dramatically. It feels like a "proper winter". Despite the cold temps, you don't get sopping wet. It makes everywhere look more attractive (except when turns to that grey dirty slushy mush mess )

AIBU to be hugely disappointed that my local weather report predicts rain and drizzle for the next 24 hours??

YANBU, but look on the bright side, I read in the newspaper the other day that scientists are now predicting that we are entering a "mini ice age" which will last for the next 20-30 years and that these kind of winters will become the norm . They also say that summer temperatures will also be lower.... MMMmmmm global warming my arse!!!

wannaBe · 14/01/2010 06:49

I hate the rain but this snow is boring now. not safe to go out/slippery everywhere, we need the rain to melt it all so we can all go back to normality.

curiositykilledhaskittens · 14/01/2010 07:20

YABU If you drive you can at least get around, the same is true if you are a young and fit walker. My normally independent (she's currently doing a masters) aunt who has cerebral palsy and my elderly grandma have been trapped at home and reliant on us for food and getting out however. I also slipped on the ice taking a dc to the docs the other day and i am young fit and had the pram for stability. Children are missing out on their education, if they can get to school they are stuck inside all day, people are risking their lives to drive to work. Doctors and nurses are struggling to get to hospitals which are seeing increased numbers of patients. We just don't have the infrastructure to cope with prolonged periods of snow and ice. It might look pretty for a couple of days but it is pretty dangerous once it turns to ice.

giraffesCantWalkInSnow · 14/01/2010 07:24

No yabu. It looked pretty at first falling in the dark sky, making everything white.

But then it turned slushy, slippy and frankly lethal. I had a fall and landed on my already fucked up wrist And getting anywhere took 6x as long.

Loads of my driving lessons get cancelled and I have my test on Tuesday so am now panicing. Test centres only reopened if it snows again/freezes badly then Im stuffed.

In fact I am up for as all aiming hairdryers at the sky to blow the snow clouds away - who is up for that?

FlightAttendant · 14/01/2010 07:27

yanbu, although sympathies for Giraffes and her wrist

It has rained solidly here since the start of November, the snow was a welcome change...can't stand the idea of MORE RAIN as no matter how nice ones anorak is, it still allows ones KNEES to get dripped on.

I always quite liked rain before the school run became a regular fixture...

actually I have now got some waterproof trousers so might use those today.

pippaNnippa · 14/01/2010 07:43

I have been marooned for nearly 4 weeks due to lack of road gritting and living in the country where there are no pavements and hence pushing my dd in a pram in dangerous on ungritted small country lanes.

We have not had our bins emptied for 6 weeks and I've not been on a run for days.

I can not wait for the snow to be replaced with rain. I just feel bad for ppl at risk of flooding

hurrydownthechimneytonight · 14/01/2010 07:44

yabu sorry

The idea of rain and the snow melting has filled me with joy today! rise in tempertures finally if i was not so full of baby id jump about!

Have been housebound from sun before christmas, got out for 3 days in between christmas and new year, till the snow came again and pretty much since then! Not good as im 38 weeks pregnant the flat i live in has a ramp to and from front door and the road we live on is an actual ice rink!

All above not helped by having cold, bronchitus and now laryngitus..... so snow

we loved you for a few days now GO AWAY!!

rant over

borderslass · 14/01/2010 07:45

yabu send the rain here if you don't want it got phone call at 7.10 to say taxi couldn't make it roads are too dangerous son usually gets picked up at 7.15 could of got up a bit later.

giraffesCantWalkInSnow · 14/01/2010 07:47

Although flight at least hurting my wrist on ice has more streed cred than hurting it in a soft play centre

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 14/01/2010 07:48

Let it rain, let it rain , let it rain!

southeastastra · 14/01/2010 08:19

perhaps you have SAD, snow is meant to improve moods dramatically if you have it. brightens everything up

Wonderstuff · 14/01/2010 08:23

YABU it was pretty for a bit, now it is plain annoying, its costing a ton of money and I want to get back to normal thank you

I have a friend who is a driving instructor, poor woman hasn't made a penny all month! 1 day of snow is nice, any more than that is really rubbish.

peanutbear · 14/01/2010 08:39

each to their own but I prefer the rain, kids are at school I can go where I want and no tantrums because one school is closed but the older child's school is open

Its the tantrums and getting up at seven to log on line to keep checking mum!! that really grates!!!

slummymummy36 · 14/01/2010 08:47

I am sure I heard on the radio yesterday that this thaw will be brief.

Temps to rise to a tropical 7 degrees Sunday only to drop back to freezing Monday. Risk of snow and more sub zero temperatures next week!

Only caught the tail end of the bloke chatting away - it was the radio in my local shop!

If this is true we can expect another weekend of supermarket madness no doubt!

YANBU - I hate the rain!

Wonderstuff · 14/01/2010 08:49

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! No more snow I've had enough!

Wonderstuff · 14/01/2010 08:51

Just checked BBC 8 degrees and cloudy on Monday [phew]

Hulababy · 14/01/2010 08:54

YABU IMO

It is now dangerous outside for drivers and pedestrains alike. The ice is treacherous.

I would much rather see temos rise above freezing with some drizzle to clear the snow and thaw rhe ice.

I am fine in that I am housebound through being ill. But I am hating it everytime DH and DD have to go out in the car to school and work. Doesn't matter how safely DH drives, you can't control other people and accidents.

The cold weather also means I am less likely to be able to outside and hinder my recovery. Although fresh air is good for me - I have pneumonia - the cold air isn't and can make things worse for me. I haven't been out since January 2nd, except for being taken to hospital for the weekend.

The longer term forecasts keep changing. Some are saying then although temps may go down again a bit, it won't be widespread snow and ice and below ) types, others are preducting a bit more snow and sleet.

Hulababy · 14/01/2010 08:55

Also - what about the elderly and those with disabilities making walking more difficult. They are housebound and have been since before Christmas. They can't go outside and enjoy any of this snw. Ther support networks are hindered because of the ice and bad road conditions. In some parts of the country meals on wheels etc are having to taken by emergency services and mountain rescue.

RolandButter · 14/01/2010 08:56

oh stop hwhingeing

Hulababy · 14/01/2010 08:59

But I really don't ave anything better to do than sit here and whinge! I am housebound, sofabound even! The whinging at least gives me a purpose.

Mooncupflowethover · 14/01/2010 09:07

YABU. I managed to write my car off in the bloody stuff! Bring on the rain

BouncingTurtle · 14/01/2010 09:20

YABU!!! It has been a nightmare trying to get around on icy pavements, and I want to take DS out on his trike!

Hulababy · 14/01/2010 09:30

DD got a scooter for Cristmas; she hasn;t has chance to use it
