to be disappointed that the lovely snow is to be replaced by sodding rain?

Every year I complain that I could cope with winter if it wasn't so fecking "wet". I hate endless days of drizzle or lashing rain.

The snow, however inconvenient it may be wrt school closures, slow driving conditions etc improves my mood dramatically. It feels like a "proper winter". Despite the cold temps, you don't get sopping wet. It makes everywhere look more attractive (except when turns to that grey dirty slushy mush mess )

AIBU to be hugely disappointed that my local weather report predicts rain and drizzle for the next 24 hours??

Fresh, crunchy, powdery snow is fantastic but the ice covered footpaths and roads that follow are not.

I hate to to say it, I really do but the rain is a lot easier to deal with for this giant pregnant woman and the school run.

tulpe · 14/01/2010 09:55

So the general consensus is that IABU

However, I think somebody mentioned that possibly I have SAD and I agree that it is quite probable, tbh.

Sorry to hear about those who have had nasty falls or have been housebound for far too long. Agree, there are many out there who cannot enjoy the snowy weather as their social contact/networks and support are totally cut off. Also, horrendous driving conditions are not at all lovely to have to experience.

I do think we need to get our sh*t together in this country though and make sensible preparations for this snowy weather. DH has been trying to get hold of winter tyres for our cars to no avail (France, Netherlands and Switzerland it is the norm). Everyone has told him that they are unnecessary and they don't sell anyway even when they have had them in stock! He is now having them sent over by relatives in the Netherlands. A simple measure which should be the norm here too now, I feel.

yanbu - I'm going to be out of a job soon - chief snow shoveller.

And I HATE black slush.

never mind, models are split today as to whether this will all return next week sometime or not. and I expect most people will appreciate not having to take their lives into their hands when they go out for a few days at least.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/01/2010 10:04

really SEA? my mood is as black as the slush on the roads at the moment. I was so happy with the snow.

giraffesCantWalkInSnow · 14/01/2010 10:05

Thats my driving test cancelled due to weather

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/01/2010 10:07

sorry giraffe

upafrozenhill · 14/01/2010 10:07

From my perspective I agree with you. I am sad to be losing the snow. I drove yesterday for the first time since well before Christmas but I am fortunate that I can get around and I enjoy sledging and walking in the snow. Also I have made it into work every day (especialy during Christmas and New Year to be sent home after an hour. Those that made it in recieved a full days pay but those that couldn't had to take holiday, Toil etc.
So for me I got a lot of time with family without having to take holidays plus I get priority of having next Christmas off.

I feel sad for people who have had a horrendous time and not getting about. There have been sone awful stories about people being trapped and I wasn't happy about the kids missing school especially those in year 11 with final exams this year.

DaftApeth · 14/01/2010 10:32

I'm in the YABU camp too, I'm afraid.

Dh has been made housebound by the snow/ice. It had just about melted enough for him to think about attempting to go out again and then we had another load of snow!

Luckily the rising temps and yes, rain, mean that this latest snow will be short lived.

My heart sang this morning when I woke and heard the rain because I knew there would be no ice to contend with on the school run and dh wiould be able to get on with life outside the house again.

BornToFolk · 14/01/2010 10:37

YABU. I've had enough of this sodding snow. DS won't walk in it after slipping a couple of times, so I either have to carry him or drag the buggy through the slush. Walking anywhere takes longer.

And people at work are taking the piss and "working from home" which means those of us that do come in are stuck answering their phones and covering their work.

wannaBe · 14/01/2010 10:47

even snow makes things difficult for me as there is no distinction between the pavement and the road so the dog finds it difficult to find the curbs safely.

It is do-able but at the moment journeys are done on a strictly need-to basis at the moment and I am having to compromise, ie instead of walking to our local asda which is actually only a fifteen minute walk from here I had to catch a buss as there are just too many roads to cross and I could not guarantee that I would be able to walk there safely.

We've had fun playing out in it and the dog loves to chase snowballs, but sadly normal life has to go on and the snow makes it incredibly difficult.

WashwithCare · 14/01/2010 10:54

Still snowing here

MollyRoger · 14/01/2010 10:58

YANBU - to me. The snow has made January bearable, because it is so pretty and has meant that strangers have been helping each other and smiling and talking to each other. it has necessitated a Dunkirk spirit. I suffer from SAD and the snow has been greatly preferable to 30 days of grey, dank, cloudy drizzle and drear-ness

I do appreciate that for countless other people it has meant a deal of hardship, isolation etc...

BrahmsThirdRacket · 14/01/2010 11:20

YABU! I hate the snow, I'm glad it's dying. Now I can actually get on with my life

borderslass · 14/01/2010 13:36

tulpe my DH gets winter tyres on every winter he has to he's a self employed taxi owner-driver and can't work otherwise but the severity of it this year has stopped him working in the worst of it even he won't drive on the ice but I think it is possibly also to do with the pratts who think they can drive like theres no snow or ice on the ground.

Janos · 14/01/2010 13:47

YABU.

It's been snowing up here in Scotland for 5 weeks, my rubbish hasn't been collected for nearly 4, pavements are icy and slippy, getting about is taking longer than usual and I'm bloody sick of it.

BRING ON THE RAIN!

MrsJohnDeere · 14/01/2010 13:53

YABU.

We've been pretty much housebound since the 18th of December. I can't wait for it all to go and normal life to resume. I've never been so pleased to see rain.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 14/01/2010 13:59

YANBU - but that's just from a purely selfish pov. The rain is here today and it's grey and bloody miserable.

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/01/2010 14:05

Normally I love snow, but I've been stuck in the village for 8 days now so I am hoping for RAIN and lots of it, to wash away all the snow and make it safe/possible to drive!

JustMoon · 14/01/2010 14:21

YABU I am over the moon about the snow going, sick to death of it!

I have to get to work or face the wrath of my boss (which is not pleasant) and driving in this scares the bejeesus out of me.
