Her sons go to boarding school so aren't here to use them.

I asked very nicely and she said she wouldn't in case they got broken or if someone else asked for them?

Perhaps it cost a lot of money. DS has this one which I have seen in the shops for £43.99 and his friend has this one. I have also seen ones with steering wheels for about £50, ones which sit on skis which are about £60 and ones on stainless steel runners for about £70.

LetThereBeRock · 13/01/2010 16:30

The garden belonged to the resident of an almshouse, not a friend.

I don't remember any specific mention of sledging last week, just playing in the snow, though perhaps it was discussed.

diddl · 13/01/2010 16:31

Is what relevant?

If she wants to sledge why can´t she buy her own?

LetThereBeRock · 13/01/2010 16:32

Ignore that. I've just remembered the other sledging thread. The outfit one.

StrictlyKatty · 13/01/2010 16:37

I have a sledge and have lent it out. But only to a good FRIEND I would never trust a random neighbour/casual friend with it. Her property her choice.

tapas · 13/01/2010 16:42

Why are you always asking others for things?

Here's an idea - buy your own!

I get the impression that you think because it's for your lo's people should give in.

You are not a good role model for your kids.

diddl · 13/01/2010 16:42

Yes, playing in the snow-not sledging.

Was thinking that OP had a sledge then so why the need to borrow now?

I think the OP has entitlementitis.

WhoIsAsking · 13/01/2010 16:43

Bloody hell Tapa that's a bit harsh.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 13/01/2010 16:45

Blimey.

Firstly I'd love to know who could have bought sledge in central London over the last fortnight?

Plus it's a sodding sledge - hardly a much treasured possession. Said friend has the luxury of a 4x4 and the inclination to drive out to big shopping centres.

As it is we went out (briefly as DD got too cold) and used our ikea bag - was fab but not as fun as it ccould have been

StrictlyKatty · 13/01/2010 16:46

Exactly, I hate when people ask for things and assume you should lend them whatever they want whenever they want because it's for your children.

If you really want things, buy them yourself it's not rocket science.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 13/01/2010 16:49

tapas hahaha

Yeah I'm all just grab grab grab

search under my name why don't you.

See me just the other day saying I'll buy pregnancy vitamins for a lady on freecycle that asked for them.

See also the thread about me buying a friend a mama and papas pram because she was broke and unexpectedly pregnant.

Oh and £1000 myself and friends raised for kidscompany last year.

Yep all I care about is myself.

LetThereBeRock · 13/01/2010 16:49

So they have a 4x4 and the almshouse residents have a nice home. And that apparently means that they've no right to decide that they don't want others to use their belongings/property?

LetThereBeRock · 13/01/2010 16:51

I do think your last statement was unfair Tapas.

Hulababy · 13/01/2010 16:52

Some sledges, even plastic ones, are quite expensive.

TBH I am not sure whether I'd go lending DD's sledge out TBH. I guess it would depend on who asked, but to a random neighbour, not convinced.

As you say they are hard to get hold of at the minute so it is did get lost or broken, then DD would be losing out too.

Now, having a friend/neighbour's child sledging at same time as DD - sharing, that would be different and wouldn't have a problem.

But then I can't imagine asking myself.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 13/01/2010 16:52

pmsl you are not new here

why post in AIBU if you are not going to like being told YABU

you KNOW this of old

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 13/01/2010 16:52

Who mentioned 4x 4?

OP posts:
Hulababy · 13/01/2010 16:54

TDWP - your post says they have a 4x4

LetThereBeRock · 13/01/2010 16:54

'Said friend has the luxury of a 4x4 and the inclination to drive out to big shopping centres.'

I think that would be you who mentioned it.

I don't mean in the garden thread. I mean this one.

Hulababy · 13/01/2010 16:55

If you search there are sledges in stock:

here for example

BoysAreLikeDogs · 13/01/2010 16:56

arf Hula not one there large enough for my arse boo hoo

Hulababy · 13/01/2010 16:56

and here

Hulababy · 13/01/2010 16:58

I thought they were for the kids!

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 13/01/2010 16:59

Hulababy yep I ordered some from Amazon last thursday - still haven't come though.

Not those horrid disk ones though - I saw a tiny girl spinning down a hill until she flew off and split her lip last week.

We used to use an old wooden tray as one when we were kids

Not that we get alot of snow on the south coast!

MadreInglese · 13/01/2010 17:03

TDWP don't take it personally

I've reigned in my 'lending out of stuff' to people because I was sick of things getting wrecked or lost and not returned.
