To think the Daily Mail has a point on this ONE issue and my council are running scared?

My crappy council hasn't collected the bins since the Monday before Christmas - I make that THREE weeks. Today they were mentioned in the Daily Mail's round up of shit that has happened due to the snow and, amazingly, the lorry turned up minutes ago. I don't know if there's any relationship between the Mail's call to a council press officer and this amazing event, obviously, but an interesting coincidence.

They only took the non-recyclable stuff, though, God alone knows how long we will have to wait until they empty the other bins. Which are obviously full of the nasty stinky waste you don't want to have hanging around for weeks on end.

And snow is no ruddy excuse as we are in Hertfordshire and it has NOT been deep enough to make it unsafe to run rubbish trucks. Maybe one day out of the last three weeks if I'm being really generous. And if it was unsafe for that one day, they should have come out to take away the overdue rubbish on another day, not left it.

Grrr what do we pay our council tax for etc. etc. etc.

Sadly, there is usually a relationship between a phone call from a newspaper and sudden action by the council (I used to work for Dacorum borough council )

this happened to us they didnt come for three weeks. We dont have wheely bins just black bags so we cant leave three weeks of black bags out on the street as the seagulls just rip them to shreds.

They turned up the end of last week on a totally random day with no warning so no one had any bags out which was a bit pointless really. So we now have a month of rubbish in our garden (no car to drive it anywhere).

I understand they couldnt come in the snow but that was only one week the other weeks were holidays and a small amount of ice (which affected nothing apart from the rubbish lorry aparently).

Hequet, this is your neighbouring borough, St Albans (should have named and shamed them in the OP).

Fernie, that must be even more irritating with black bags. I was wondering whether we'd have to start using bags as everyone's bin was full to overflowing, and whether they'd take bags as well as bins.

Haven't had my bins done since the 18th of December. The snow wasn't even that bad where I live, they just can't be arsed. I live in Edinburgh.

Hey Crackfox, you've trumped St Albans, well done! (Or should that be commiserations?)

ours haven't been done for 6 weeks now...

If parents / schools / buses can get around, why on Earth can't the massive (therefore heavy) bin lorries???

Imagine not turning into work for SIX weeks in any other organisation - it just wouldn't be allowed unless for radical medical conditions...

I think they should get the sack, personally - or whoever is responsible for not letting them out on their rounds

The council refused to put them on overtime in those few days we had with no snow too to sort the area out ... utterly unacceptable and frankly appaling imo

Thank goodness it's not summer or warm, is all I'm saying

TheCrackFox · 12/01/2010 10:21

I think they might do it this Friday - or maybe not. I wish this reduced service was reflected in my council tax but no.

Alambil · 12/01/2010 10:22

ps my post is Dacorum... seems herts is one big wet blanket

Who feels like loading their cars up and taking them to the council offices?!

Alambil · 12/01/2010 10:23

oops, can't count - is only 5 weeks; still appalling

edam · 12/01/2010 10:28

Blimey, can't believe there are councils even worse than mine! Sympathy to everyone else - can only suggest you phone the Mail and see if your pathetic authorities jump...
