To think that if our little rickety milk float can make it...

then so can those whopping recycling and rubbish lorries?

We have had a milk delivery cancelled, and he comes in the dead of night when it has been most treacherous. Up and down peoples paths he goes, and I have seen no evidence of smashed bottles!

I salute you little rickety float ( stirring music )

But where are the recycling and rubbish lorries. Is it really too dangerous for them?

I agree. Our little milk float has been making it round - as, oddly enough have the paper boys and girls on their bikes. But no bin collections , no post,no buses and schools still shut.
I had to walk into work yesterday as the buses aren't running round our way "like the north pole" I was told, and really suffered for the walk, so got a taxi back. he dropped me off on the main road at teh top of our estate and said " it's too dangerous round your way"

Our council are advertising that our bin men etc are being used to clear snow from car parks, pavements etc and in all fairness I think in these circumstances I agree with them not doing the rounds, I lot of the roads are dangerous the men are carrying heavy loads and I am not sure there boots are water proof or soled properly to walk safely on ice. I don't want a huge lorry trying to turn around on my ice covered street.

Libra.. where abouts are you?

I am sure in some parts in would be too much to ask, but really not where we are.

are post has been getting delivered no problem but the bins are just starting to be collected today council saying if they cant get the bins around to back of wagon they'll only take the top bags and andy blue council bags we don't have a wheelie bin can't manage it up the steps with my bad back.

Saltire · 12/01/2010 08:32

borderslass - that's strange how your post is getting delivered, because my sorting office told me "Oh well you're scottish aren't you, so if you are waiting for parcels from Scotland you'll ahve to wait a bit longer as NO mail whatsoever is getting out of scotland". Yes, of course it isn't, silly me.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/01/2010 09:25

we had post for the first time yesterday. Its no wonder they arent managing though looking at the silly foot wear one was wearing today - ordinary shoes, no clip on crampon. he was slidding all over the place.

no bin lorries and council say that they will only go on gritted roads. which is quite amusing when they aren't bothering to grit residential roads.

our milk man is a hero. not sure how he has managed to get the milk to us, yet still each morning it is magically there!

Our milkman is definitely magic - we had about 40cm of snow last week, and the depot is about 10 miles away, but still the milk appeared on the doorstep - a miracle !
