The Nintendo DS doesn't understand DS or me either (Scottish accents too). It probably doesn't understand most people though.

Heqet · 10/01/2010 12:39

yes. It is too expensive .

I suspect gadgets that recognise voices struggle with strong accents. There's only so many ways to pronounce things that they can programme the things to understand.

AvadaKedavra · 10/01/2010 12:39

I can hear him shouting at it now Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrred!

I once tried to book cinema tickets using the Odeon voice recognition software.

Had to give up - I was saying "Wooorrrr of the Wuuurrrlds" and it just wasn't getting it!

THings should recognise more than just estuary English and middle America!

MollieO · 10/01/2010 12:46

Well I speak with a RP accent and a year later we are still trying to get the wretched DS to understand. I think you just have to be persistent or lucky!

shockers · 10/01/2010 12:47

I'm from Lancashire and it won't accept my "red" either!
The DSi is 'northernist'

CardyMow · 10/01/2010 12:48

My DD is very 'estuary english' in her accent, and the ruddy thing still doesn't understand HER sometimes!! When she's playing her nintendogs, all you hear is 'SIT' getting louder and more irritated each time!!

weegiemum · 10/01/2010 12:49

Maybe it doesn't recognise anyone???

muggglewump · 10/01/2010 12:51

It recongnises me (north east England), but not DD. (weird hybrid of me and Glaswegian ned!)

monkeyfeathers · 10/01/2010 13:01

I tried to book cinema tickets over the phone once too. It was not a good idea.

I now make DP deal with most phone related tasks as it always goes better with his southern accent, whether he gets a person or a machine.

MollieO · 10/01/2010 14:22

We got Nintendogs last Christmas (2008) and have tried numerous times to name the wretched thing but all to no avail.

juneybean · 10/01/2010 14:28

I'm north east england and it doesn't like my 'blue'

Hando · 10/01/2010 15:14

It works fine with me and dd's voices - we are SE London/Kent.

However DP has a Irish accent and it recognises his voice too. Although he has had problems with other automated telephone services in the past and I've seen him get REALLY annoyed about it

Furball · 10/01/2010 15:21

Well it doesn't reconise our voices either and we aren't scottish. Though we have trouble with blue.

IneedacleanerIamalazyslattern · 10/01/2010 15:26

Mine recognises me and my dads him and my dad talks like Billy Connely if that helps anyone

Heracles · 10/01/2010 15:32

That's the problem with the Scotch: they just don't want to be understood. Am I right?

fernie3 · 10/01/2010 15:33

doesnt recognise me (welsh accent) but does recognize husband (liverpool)

LetThereBeRock · 10/01/2010 15:45

Scotch? We're not an alcoholic drink. It's Scots.

Heracles · 10/01/2010 15:50

Yeah I know; I also know you don't not want to be understood. sigh I'll not bother next time.

IneedacleanerIamalazyslattern · 10/01/2010 15:57

DH definately doesn't want to be understood...he is Aberdonian whole different language

AvadaKedavra · 10/01/2010 16:27

OK I ust found out that it doesn't like a Midlands SCISSORS either blardy thing

OP posts:
oldspeckledtam · 10/01/2010 18:48

I'm struggling with a midlands scissors too. I have to say Seeeezooooorrrs in a kind of italian fashion. And it still only recognises me half the time. It doesn't like the way I say blue either.

crazycanuck · 10/01/2010 18:50

Blardy things don't understand Canadian accents either

catinthehat2 · 10/01/2010 19:10

HAve you not seen the "HP cameras are racist video" yet?

ln1981 · 10/01/2010 22:31
