"works as an educator, a care assistant, a cleaner, a cook, a PA, a laundrywoman, an entertainer and a food source. 24/7, never being properly off duty and never getting more than two hours sleep in a row. Whilst recovering from major surgery. Having just grown a human being inside her body. I'd say that is pretty hardworking."

Just before New Year (I posted about it then) a friend with no children accused of not being hardworking as I am a SAHM. I am still seething. I have done both WOH and SAH and both are just as hard, plus I am still in pain and limping from a section and spd fgs!

I probably should just rise above it, but every time I change a nappy or deal with a tantrum (I have 2 DDs, 2.10 yo and 7 wo) it comes back to mind.

Said friend works part time as a teaching assistant and lives with her parents.

aah, let it go

her time will come! hope you are feeling better soon

Mamazon · 10/01/2010 10:39

go for it. i doubt that friend is the only one on your list that needs reminding just how much sahm's do

Comewhinewithme · 10/01/2010 10:41

YANBU but a passive aggresive status makes you look like a loon IMO.
Did you not tell her this when she said it (she sounds like a cheeky cow BTW).

FlightAttendant · 10/01/2010 10:41

Yanbu, but I don't think I could post anything like that without lying through my teeth

'works as an internet forum contributor whilst eating cold pizza, occasionally doing so with a 2yo hanging off one boob'

is about the best I could offer.

Makes you look ridiculous imo.

FlightAttendant · 10/01/2010 10:45

Yes it is a really dodgy thing to do actually. I think you need to just quietly avoid her for a while. She sounds, well, inexperienced.

Did she say it maliciously or just as a joke?

ButterPie · 10/01/2010 10:45

I know, I should be mature, but I was seething! I was too shocked to respond when she said it.

I would change the status but don't see any harm in speaking to her and saying - sorry I just have to return to something you said the other day because I have been seething about it and just want to see if I picked you up wrongly because I now can't believe you would have actually said this. Then remind her of her comment and see if she has the cajones to repeat it

brightonpebble · 10/01/2010 10:56

YANBU. You do sound defensive, grumpy, and sleep deprived, but I completely understand the sentiment and why you'd want to post this. But now that you've vented, probably best for your own mental health to assume you've made your point and try to move past it.

zippyzapper · 10/01/2010 11:01

let it go - as to change your status does make you sound passive aggressive...

BarbieLovesKen · 10/01/2010 11:15

Sorry but you've made yourself look a little nuts to be honest.

Also not completey happy with your decisions either, ifykwim, when someone remarks at my working outside home and going to college part time (awful mother!) it doesnt bother me in the least and goes straight over my head cos I'm happy with our decisions.

When I first went back to work when dd was little, wondered if I was doing the right thing / guilt etc... it would bother me if someone made a comment as I was unsure myself - that make sense???

RedTartanLass · 10/01/2010 11:41

Your friend works part-time and lives with her parents? You have 2 wonderful children, your own place and dh?

Do not let this girl make you angry, she is a sad pathetic jelous wee girl who would give her right arm to be in your position!!

Butterpie, ignore her, next time you feel angry with her, ask yourself would you want to changes places with her? Then you will realise why she has made the comments, little green, mean machine.
