There we go, carry on everyone. Teachers are crap because....

Caretaker? We have a site manager dontchaknow.

piscesmoon · 07/01/2010 22:50

There is no reason why the teacher can't take on the Head, caretaker, school meals staff and LEA and insist that they get into school. It doesn't matter that they will take on several classes on their own, as long as they keep them occupied for 6 hrs.

acatcalledfidget · 07/01/2010 22:55

damn it wonderstuff you've left us open for taking responsibility for the gas shortage, why aren't you all making your way to school now to ensure you get there for 8.30. I have my snow shoes and halo on and am leaving now, i intend to assist in the birth of three babies and give first aid to the elderly as I go.

A shining example, acatcalledfidget, no wonder the rest get a bad name!

pithyslicker · 07/01/2010 23:01

I don't think everyone was moaning about lazy teachers, another problem with teachers then prone to hyperbole.

violethill · 07/01/2010 23:01

I'll tell my observation: the levels of sharpness and wit on MumsNet increase proportionately to the number of snow days teachers have off school.

We're much more fun than the boring fuckers on here all day every day

BoneyBackJefferson · 07/01/2010 23:45

He says the problem with teachers is, "What's a kid going to learn
from someone who decided his best option in life was to become a teacher?"
He reminds the other dinner guests that it's true what they say about
teachers:
Those who can, do; those who can't, teach.

I decide to bite my tongue instead of his
and resist the temptation to remind the other dinner guests
that it's also true what they say about lawyers.

Because we're eating, after all, and this is polite company.

"I mean, you¹re a teacher, Taylor," he says.
"Be honest. What do you make?"

And I wish he hadn't done that
(asked me to be honest)
because, you see, I have a policy
about honesty and ass-kicking:
if you ask for it, I have to let you have it.

You want to know what I make?

I make kids work harder than they ever thought they could.
I can make a C+ feel like a Congressional medal of honor
and an A- feel like a slap in the face.
How dare you waste my time with anything less than your very best.

I make kids sit through 40 minutes of study hall
in absolute silence. No, you may not work in groups.
No, you may not ask a question.
Why won't I let you get a drink of water?
Because you're not thirsty, you're bored, that's why.

I make parents tremble in fear when I call home:
I hope I haven't called at a bad time,
I just wanted to talk to you about something Billy said today.
Billy said, "Leave the kid alone. I still cry sometimes, don't you?"
And it was the noblest act of courage I have ever seen.

I make parents see their children for who they are
and what they can be.

You want to know what I make?

I make kids wonder,
I make them question.
I make them criticize.
I make them apologize and mean it.
I make them write, write, write.
And then I make them read.
I make them spell definitely beautiful, definitely beautiful, definitely
beautiful
over and over and over again until they will never misspell
either one of those words again.
I make them show all their work in math.
And hide it on their final drafts in English.
I make them understand that if you got this (brains)
then you follow this (heart) and if someone ever tries to judge you
by what you make, you give them this (the finger).

Let me break it down for you, so you know what I say is true:
I make a goddamn difference! What about you?

closer to the truth

BoneyBackJefferson · 07/01/2010 23:57

I always prefered the PE teacher one

But I like my post as a reply to those that can etc.

echt · 08/01/2010 01:15

Weegiemum - you need to enhance your job title - Colouring in Across the Curriculum Coordinator -CACC - and act in an advisory capacity throughout the school. Write a policy.

FunnyLittleFrog · 08/01/2010 18:50

Hilarious thread - proof, if proof were needed, that teachers are just the BEST.

Ner ner.

Wonderstuff · 08/01/2010 19:53

I love Taylor Mali
I really hope the snow isn't too bad over the weekend - I'm not cut out for this SAHM lark!

posieparker · 08/01/2010 20:16

Teachers are crap because my DS is in a class where his teacher is so kind, caring, inspiring, fun, hard working, bloody handsome, and has got my DS so excited about learning that he makes me look really rubbish!!

posieparker · 08/01/2010 20:17

ooops was this just for teachers, I trained as one but knew that I wouldn't love to teach, and I think it's too hard to do just because you can.

tethersend · 08/01/2010 20:24

posie, anyone who wants to berate teachers is welcome here

posieparker · 08/01/2010 20:26
Smile
Goblinchild · 08/01/2010 20:28

Have we got enough teachers on here to form a coven?

Icanseethesea · 08/01/2010 20:40

@echt - apparently i teach colouring in too - post 16 special needs.

Would this be an appropriate point at which to mention that I was in college all this week, but none of the students turned up???

acatcalledfidget · 08/01/2010 20:50

I just got sucked into the other thread, I almost started to take it seriously so i've come back here to my happy place.

Repeat after me...

There's no place like school
There's no place like school
There's no place like school
There's no place like school

acatcalledfidget · 08/01/2010 21:50

said as a positive affirmation or a re-occurring scream??

FleurDelacour · 10/01/2010 01:48

I feel really hard done by. I taught in North Yorks for fourteen years and never got a snow day off school. The minute I leave this happens...

echt · 10/01/2010 04:57

I echo this one, Fleur, ne'er a snow day in 24 years ;(, but a pleasant 33 today, but a very unpleasant 41 tomorrow. Time to move all the plants into the shade.
