ok, I've been reading through the threads in parenting and so many people seem obsessed with following x, y or z method with their children, wtf???

am i missing something since I had mt ds 10 years ago? I have a 6 week old dd and am curious about this new trend.. aibu to not to want to follow a -fad- method?

btw, I am currently doing my phd in psychology and my speciality is child development .... I just want to let dd develop at her own pace and use common sense....

I think some people follow methods some people just do whatever is best/easiest. I dont think I follow any particular parenting style if I do its an accident!

I love common sense! People should try using it more often it's bloody marvellous

I am doing the same as you.

Seeing what ds2 needs etc and doing my best.

No need for the ffs imo.

Also some people feel they need to follow a 'method', it makes them feel better/calmer/more relaxed/confident etc.

"I just want to let dd develop at her own pace and use common sense" - then do that. It's not a new law that you missed hearing about

I think it's sad that people doubt themselves so much that they are scared to trust their own instincts, but tbh, it doesn't matter what other people are doing. Your baby - your rules. If the rest of the world was following a book, it wouldn't make one jot of difference to how you did it. So put it out of your mind. Nobody is going to care if you don't do it by the book.

Just do what you want.
I think most people do irrespective of opinions of vocal minority.
