It's just getting a little silly IMO...

Totally agree.

Schools can not do wrong for doing right. Human beings have to assess the situation and do the best they can. Tecahers and heads and LEAs are not run by robots, they are people with concerns for the safety and well being of staff and children.

If us parents can not accept and deal with that then maybe we should consider home education.

OrmIrian · 06/01/2010 11:07

Totally agree. Schools close due to snow! So what?

Galena · 06/01/2010 11:37

I bet there will be more though!

would it be unreasonsable for me to ask AIBU to think my daughters should close out of sympathy for other schools? just so that I can lie in bed and feel sorry for myself?(we have no snow)

duckyfuzz · 06/01/2010 11:41

YANBU at all

fiveisanawfullybignumber · 06/01/2010 11:41

Totally agree, why can't they just listen to radio listings/view local websites and be done.
Teachers are human too, give them a break.

PooCrumbsInYourBed · 06/01/2010 11:44

amen to that OP

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 06/01/2010 11:46

Agree wholeheartedly ! It's a lose lose for the schools - if they open people moan that it's dangerous if they close people moan it's an overreaction. If they tell you the day before they should have waited to see what the weather is like if they tell you on the day it's not enough notice!!! People need to get a grip and realise that everyone is doing their best in difficult and unpredictable circumstances and STOP BLOODY MOANING!

pooter · 06/01/2010 11:48

totally agree. Most people who have that opinion have not thought through the implications of opening for a school. Heating issues, safety, buses, staffing, congestion on the roads. It's not the same as just dealing with adults - we are responsible for these children and dont want to put them in any danger.

2snowshoes · 06/01/2010 11:51

yanbu
DD's school is shut
it is in the middle of no where and everyone pupils included has to travel by car/van/bus so I tottally understand(dd is stuck there)

CardyMow · 06/01/2010 15:16

I'm not overly fussed about whether the school is shut or open, just think that the school could have published their decision somewhere (anywhere!) before 8.45am when 1/3 of the pupils (at the primary) have to leave the house to catch buses there by 8.10am. THAT I find worth moaning about. Considering the Juniors start at 8.45....

mummyofexcitedprincesses · 06/01/2010 15:59

What a refreshingly sensible thread. I have really enjoyed having my 2 home and playing in the snow today. I doubt very much one day will impact much on their education (would quite like another).

Lizzylou · 06/01/2010 16:00

YANBU

Pikelit · 06/01/2010 16:09

YANBU. I'm sick of seeing this constant search for a scapegoat. I know it can be a pain not knowing what's going on but that's life.

jellybeans · 06/01/2010 17:10

YANBU, they should close if any risk to anybody. I am glad the kids are off and in the warm and enjoyed extra time with them.

lilolilmanchester · 06/01/2010 17:15

agree - but also agree with loudlass. if it is risky for children and staff to make it in to school, then of course close. But don't not publicise it, put people at same risk of getting there, only to find out closed on arrival. Not too hard in this day and age - most people have internet access, but not that hard to change school answerphone message for those who don't....

tulpe · 06/01/2010 17:18

Agree that YANBU. However, do also agree with Loudlass about the time at which schools think to inform us. Most of the schools in our area decided to close and updated the school closures website (run by our LEA) by 7am. Our school didn't provide update until 8.30am which, personally, I don't think is good enough considering we are in fairly rural location and many parents would already have left and attempted to get to school by then.
