for still wanting to take my DS to creche today?

It is snowing here, or it was, has stopped now and it isn't really thick. My DH has gone to work which is 10 miles away. My DS is due to go to the creche this afternoon which is my 2 and a half hours a week of peace. I still want to take him but I don't want to make a trip if it is going to be dangerous etc. Buses have been suspended for the time but the main road out the back looks clear and our street has been gritted by some very kind residents.
AIBU to want to go or should I just leave it for this week?

I would not go myself but if you do decide to go, call them first as several creches are closed here because the staff cannot travel there.

If the buses aren't running, then I wouldn't go out either. Even if you get there and back with no problems at all, it will probably be a very stressful drive and could take far longer than normal, which would wipe out the benefit of that time alone anyway, wouldn't it?

And worse/worst case, you could get stuck or have an accident, and be stranded out on the road either with a toddler, or knowing that the toddler is waiting to be picked up at the creche.

I don't think it is worth it, and being strict about it, the emergency services have enough on their plates without having to deal with people whose journeys weren't vital.

I wouldn't take him. You will probably find the creche is closed anyway.

Coldhands · 06/01/2010 09:36

Yeah I was thinking about it taking longer etc which would make it pointless, plus I would probably worry about picking him up or getting stuck, and like you say, I definately don't want to be stuck with a toddler. I will probably just take him outside.

TSC, no its only a 10-15 min drive, even weather like this, it is main roads so it doesn't take that long, but for today it probably isn't worth it.

Probably the best decision - sorry.

Will the creche still charge you, or would you be able to put the money for today's session towards an extra one as a treat for yourself when life returns to normal?

Coldhands · 06/01/2010 09:45

They won't charge and it is only booked on a weekly basis, you are only allowed 1 session a week so I won't be 'owed' any. Oh well, looks like its Shrek again this afternoon, lol.
