Brother up there on outskirts and snowed in.

Lulumama · 05/01/2010 21:06

my folks are in north manchester and dad,who is very hardy, is not going anywhere tomorrow. very snowy/icy. he struggled to his office today, but came home after 2 hours , afraid of not getting home later !!friend was in east manchestr today, nightmare on motorways.

if it's not essential, i woulnd't.

memoo · 05/01/2010 21:07

DH works in manchester and was sent home from work early today because of the snow. Its really bad, took him 2 hours to do a journey that usually takes 20 minutes

sanfairyann · 05/01/2010 21:07

nah don't bother unless urgent

Botbot · 05/01/2010 21:08

My mum is about 15 miles south of there and she is completely snowed in. Even the M6 is closed. I'd leave it if you can possibly help it!

stoppinattwo · 05/01/2010 21:09

I couldnt even get out of my street this morning....I just wanted to make an attempt at considering getting into the ofiice tomorrow

I am in Tameside, east Manchester. Only priority roads gritted, and even that is sparingly.

The buses went off today too.

Schools shut.

Malificence · 05/01/2010 22:29

The M6 isn't closed!

For anyone who wants to check conditions - the keep moving website has access to all the motorway traffic cameras.

I just wish there were cams on the A50 between Derby and Stoke - DH has just set off from work and says the roads are horrendous.

odisco · 05/01/2010 22:32

Don't go. Really. So little is THAT urgent. If you do take the advice about what to bring with you (blankets, hot drinks, shovel etc). Manchester don't do road gritting it seems!

gigglebells · 05/01/2010 22:32

nice one sa2
forget the trip to manchester from where you are, niece in manchester and her mum near yours, spoken to both this eve and they both say 10" of snow which is about to freeze. Pretty much the same here but you probably know that

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 05/01/2010 22:33

I live 8 miles out and we are snowed in,schools shut, buses stopped..

JaynieB · 05/01/2010 22:36

I got the train today and there were still trains running beween Leeds and Manchester at about 3/4pm but I don't know what its like now.

snottymcgrotty · 05/01/2010 22:44

Manchester uni was closed today anyway shockers.

Definitely don't bother coming to mcr if you really don't have to, its horrendous !!!! ps it's still snowing now, just adding to the 12 inches we already have !

lilolilmanchester · 05/01/2010 22:48

am in South Manchester, worked from home today. Office was empty apparently. Definitely don't travel if you don't have to

lilolilmanchester · 05/01/2010 22:48

(oh, and schools shut tomorrow too).

AnyFucker · 05/01/2010 22:51

schools closed, colleges closed, universities closed

the airport was closed until the afternoon, dunno about trains but would imagine massive delays

buses not running

6 feet of snow-drifts round where I am

roads deathly quiet (not in a good way) as hardly anyone getting in/out of their streets

no gritting done

I didn't know about the Trafford Centre...omg, 1st time ever

is that enough for ya ?

shockers · 05/01/2010 22:55

Seriously... the Trafford Centre was closed?
