Just spoke to my mother who lives in a very built up area about 6 miles outside. There are no buses running at all, no cars on the roads (although hers has been gritted). They have 9 inches of snow apparently.

I live 3 miles from city centre - there is more snow than I have ever seen here .. especially in city centre .. would rule out driving as even main roads not clear this afternoon.. where are you driving from?

M62, M602....coming in from liverpool onto the mancunian way

that might be better than the A roads but I would be worried about ice on the smaller roads.. personally would not risk it .. it is very thick here and no sign of tropical weather to melt it so it will either be still thick or icy.. stay home!

Well, I think the main roads are awful but passable but I couldn't get to work today and I live 5 miles from city centre. None of the community midwives based at my hospital could make visits or run clinics today and I can't see how it can improve by tomorrow as it will simply freeze tonight. No gritting or clearing on the roads near me, very few buses and a handful of cars on what is normally a very busy road this afternoon. I have never known snow like it in Manchester, in short, I'd stay away!!
