To be well, smug!

I have woken up today without a hangover for the first time in probably 25 years. I stopped drinking in february and apart from one 'slip' have remained sober ever since . I am so so proud of myself as it was without a doubt the most difficult thing I have ever daone and we have had a terrible year - mil died, we nearly had our house repossessed, health problems with the children. However, through it all, i resisted hiding in a bottle and even at my lowest have stayed strong. I hope this isn't too much of a 'me me me' thread but I am soo proud

That's great! Really well done.

(I don't have a hangover either but only cos I'm pregnant otherwise I would!)

weegiemum · 01/01/2010 11:46

Well done!

I also have no hangover but thats cos the kids were totally my responsibility last night as dh at work.

Hope 2010 is better for you and you can keep up your record - go you!

Well done - be as smug as you like!

TotalChaos · 01/01/2010 11:49

well done!

BikeRunSnowflake · 01/01/2010 11:50

That is brilliant. If you can give up drinking through all those hard times, then the good times should be easy. In two weeks time, my mum will have been sober for 34 years.

mii · 01/01/2010 11:50

ShannaraTiger · 01/01/2010 11:52

Good on you, Coolma!

NancyDrewRocks · 01/01/2010 11:54

YABVU - but then I am very hungover and can't cope with the idea that others are not suffering as painfully as me!

Seriously though congrats. I plan to have a booze free Jan and shall feel smug if I achieve that!

coolma · 01/01/2010 11:56

Thank you! Am happily singing through the housework, having forced dh to take the children swimming with his hangover !!!

Well done. You deserve to feel smug, and proud, and relieved. Hope this year is good to you and yours.

pinkyredrose · 01/01/2010 12:04

Nice one Coolma! I'm giving up drinking for my New Yrs resolution, had my last bit of wine last night. Slightly hungover today but look forward to being smug without one next year!

MumNWLondon · 01/01/2010 12:05

well done, but maybe now time to tackle the smoking as well?

myhandslooksoold · 01/01/2010 12:06

Good for you! your post made me smile. You should be proud of yourself. Enjoy a clear-headed new years day!!

galadriel77 · 01/01/2010 12:07

Well Done you - I think that's such a great thing to be proud of.

Hangovers are horrible things anyway and now you can enjoy the first day of a New year with a completely clear head!

Keep it up!

coolma · 01/01/2010 12:21

Oh yes, the smoking is next - I did three years then started again about 2 years ago derrr! have been 'on and off' all year but this is the time....

Well done! I managed last night without a drink but but I suspect it'll be a different story tonight (DP's birthday).
