OpheliaPain · 31/12/2009 13:52

Personally i can't be bothered to let my friends know I'm thinking of them at special times of the year. They're not that important. I could add you to my "friends" list so I can ignore you too if you like.[fwink}

OpheliaPain · 31/12/2009 13:59

the thing is its like xmas cards
if that is all the relarionship is
a bog standard "copy to eveyrone" text. then sheesh

I do think it is appallingly sad to send New Year greetings to everyone on your contact list - we saw 2009 in with someone who was totally occupied doing this for at least 10 minutes. Thus actually missing the fireworks and RL festivities that were going on and which he'd been really keen that we saw.

But I don't see what is wrong with selectively wishing your bestest friends and loved ones a Happy New Year and (sad old boiler that I am) I love the messages I get from sons and stepchildren. None of which are sent as part of some sort of mass circulation exercise.

devilsadvocaat · 31/12/2009 14:11

OP - phone number please.

TinselianAstra · 31/12/2009 14:12

I have something like 500 texts a month (and 'm on the cheapest contacrt I could find, it's a bonus extra cos I signed up online). I never use this many, so no text I send is a waste of money because I don't pay anything for it.

fanjolina · 31/12/2009 14:16

couldn't agree more

devilsadvocaat · 31/12/2009 14:19

it's the same with taking pictures.
i know people who experience whole events looking at the screen of a camera for the sake of 'capturing the day'.

one or two pics to sum it up is enough imo.

i mean whaddaya do with all those photos anyway?

CremeDeMenthe · 31/12/2009 14:23

I got one earlier, stupid 'send to nine friends for luck' crappola. or whatever the NYE equivalent is.

TrippleBerryFairy · 31/12/2009 14:43

I have a friend who from time to time sends me those 'send to 9 friends including me if you care' messages. Absolute rubbish.

Pikelit · 31/12/2009 14:51

My phone contract gives me more texts than I'd ever send. But I don't use this as an excuse to send crap, generic greetings to everyone on the contacts list.

As for this constant snapping, it drives me mad! Live the moment, I say, don't capture it (badly) in two dimensions through a screen.

TotallyAndUtterlyPaninied · 31/12/2009 14:56

Oh I love NYE texts as it means someone's thinking of you (and number of texts equals number of friends ) but YANBU I delete generic ones straight away, totally crappy and unthoughtout (I guess that's not a word but you get the gist).

Blondeshavemorefun · 31/12/2009 15:34

i hate those kind of texts

i have got

2009 is nearly over so pass on a to anyone who made you this year. It may suprise you how many you get back. Thank you for making me

OpheliaPain · 01/01/2010 10:36

OP posts:
Kaloki · 01/01/2010 10:54

Chain messages drive me nuts, and there are always loads this time of year. Luckily I've ranted about it enough that I didn't get any this year!

FanjoForTheMankySocks · 01/01/2010 11:00

one of my friends texted that she loved me, i was all touched, then I realised it was one she had sent to everyone!!

castlesintheair · 01/01/2010 11:03

OP, DH got a nye chain text poem too. So insincere!

FanjoForTheMankySocks · 01/01/2010 11:18

sorry op but that is rather funny!

nannynick · 01/01/2010 11:22

How does someone know it's going to be a Happy New Year anyway? It may be a crap year.

LIZS · 01/01/2010 11:28

yanbu - it is sad how many people invest time, money and emotional energy into the sending and receiving of such trivia. It's like measuring your popularity by number of FB "friends"
