would anybody park in a special women only car park??!

OP posts:
InMyLittleHead · 28/12/2009 23:07

Haha yes, massively patronising! I am an amazing parker and reverser. I would torch that car park.

kennythekangaroo · 28/12/2009 23:07

The spaces are 1m wider than normal!

sb6699 · 28/12/2009 23:14

Okay a little patronising but tbh at this moment in time can see their point.

Almost had my car written off twice today by crap drivers - one nearly took the front wing off driving round a roundabout and the other driving into the exit of the multistorey - both were women.

Normally, I would be livid at this though!

displayuntiltwelfthnight · 28/12/2009 23:15

I hate pink
I haven't got a different sense of distance
I am very good at reverse parking
Next they will be adding extra mirrors to the car for make up application....

Wineonafridaynight · 28/12/2009 23:21

sb6699 can I ask where in the country this was? I nearly smashed right into someone on the roundabout today! Hoping it wasn't you I nearly smashed into (although I swear that the person was not signaling right and were positioned as though they were turning off)!

MmeLindt · 28/12/2009 23:24

hahahah, that is so funny. It is like a sketch on TV, except it is real.

Jesus, but I would not like to live in China though, if that is their opinion of women in general.

sb6699 · 28/12/2009 23:36

Wineonafridaynight - Essex. Couldnt have been you, I was so far on the inside lane I was almost ON the fecking roundabout to avoid her and my MOT was done last week so my indicators are deffo working

Wineonafridaynight · 28/12/2009 23:42

Phew! Was worried there. I was in Surrey so certainly not me. Am sure that the indicators weren't on on this one but then always doubt myself so maybe it was me!

PoppyIsApain · 28/12/2009 23:49

What a load of crap
Iam a bloody brilliant parker, much better than any man i know and most toss pots i come across are male taxi drivers, they should have their own specially designed road and parking space!

Hmmm i feel better

DoingTheBestChristmasICan · 29/12/2009 08:33

What a load of twonk,on my way into work yesterday a stupid old man in his 4x4 decided to mount the pavement to park & there were people standing in his way - how very dare they - so what did he do?

He carried on driving into them & only stopped when his front bullbar touched a babies pram.

If that had been my babies pram i would have opened the car door & kicked his arse.

Nefertari · 29/12/2009 09:42

It's illegal to park on the pavement.........

SheikYerbouti · 29/12/2009 09:45

I would torch it too

You should see me park my estate car in teeny spaces

edam · 29/12/2009 09:48

Agree men are just as likely to be crap drivers as women. Saw an elderly man stop millimetres behind a woman who had stopped to reverse into a space on the street. Kept hooting her at full volume even though there was nowhere for her to go (unless she abandoned the parking space completely because of fuckwit up her rear).

It took passers by stopping, gesturing, then finally knocking on his window and making him roll it down to explain that HE was causing an obstruction for the dolt to cotton on.

edam · 29/12/2009 09:49

Oh and dh is crap at parallel parking. Apparently they didn't do it on the test when he was learning back in the dark ages. But you'd think in 20+ years of driving he'd have worked out how to do it...

tinalane · 29/12/2009 10:28

That made me laugh!

But seriously I'd LOVE a carpark with wider spaces.

Our car is longish & I often have to pass spaces I know I can't get into.

A better idea might be angled spaces! Why don't they do them?? You drive in at an angle, reverse out at an angle, easy!

It was Bill Bryson who made me think of this as he'd seen them in the states.

Kinda like this: A Nice Carpark

rumpleteaser · 29/12/2009 11:09

I quite like the idea of this car park! I'm shite at parking - probably not because I'm female though...
I think there should be special car parks for elderly single men who insist on driving people carriers... like my dad

Mandy1966 · 29/12/2009 11:11

Oh no tina lane the sainsburys car park near us is like this and its not good.
I like reversing into a parking spaces, simply because I find its easier to see whats coming when you try to pullout.
I dont understand why people would want to drive into a space then try to reverse out, and cant see whats coming?? Odd if you ask me!!

muminthemiddle · 29/12/2009 11:27

How many times do you here people saying they park in mother and baby because "the spaces are nice and wide".
Flame me if you like but after having a female taxi driver who couldn't get out of my friend's cul de sac and asked us to get out and push, then had to ring her dh to come and rescue us then sorry I will be requesting a male taxi driver in future bad weather conditions.
Seriously though there are some terrible drivers of both sexes out there.

tinalane · 29/12/2009 12:02

You do have a point Mandy, its just it looked easier to me.

Perhaps the attendants could help me reverse as well :D

Or I could just take the bus, or order online!!!

Maybe we should come up with a better idea & send it to a few supermarkets.

Tortington · 29/12/2009 12:06

i am sure all mumsnetters are highly excellent drivers, however IME most women drivers are shit and can't park for fuck.

however i think this is a good idea on safety grounds. i think it would be fab after coming back from a meeting late at night to be greeted by a parking attendant - rather than doing the high speed walk, hoping the security cameras are working and that i am not a scene in a horror movie

TinselianAstra · 29/12/2009 12:42

Mandy - you drive into the parking space so you can get to your boot to put your shopping in.

I can see that having wider spaces for people who are less good at parking (e.g. me) is a good idea, but why restrict it to women? Discriminatory against men as well as insulting to women!

A safe car park with attendants is also a nice idea, but again is rather insulting to men to suggest that they shouldn't be allowed to use it (I bet plenty of men get mugged in dark isolated car parks).

MsDoctor · 29/12/2009 12:46

I have been to China....the driving is terrible.

Tizzyjacko · 29/12/2009 12:54

Good for getting small kids in and out of the back seats. I am a crap parker and am so sad my youngest is now too old for me to use the mother and child spaces.

ninedragons · 29/12/2009 12:58

The driving in China is truly shocking, but it is equal-opportunity shocking.

MumtoCharlieandLola · 29/12/2009 12:59

Perhaps they could do one in Sainsbury's with a person wearing a hat.

COS ALL CRAP DRIVERS WEAR HATS !!!
