to throw a childish strop about my birthday??

Today is my birthday and again it has passed by with barely a whimper.

Only DP has made any effort. All my family have ignored/forgotten. It's nearly 6pm and I haven't had so much as a text or phone call from anyone.

I swear every year that I won't let it get to me but it still hurts that I'm an afterthought.

Can I stand here and wail and scream and stamp till I feel better?

Sending a birthday hug.

MeltedTreeChocolates · 27/12/2009 17:55

Will it make you feel better?

Happy birthday

Shame your birthday is at this time - they should put some more effort in but at the end of the day it is your DP who is most important!

Go get yourself a birthday cuddle (or whatever you want) and try and have a good one

InMyLittleHead · 27/12/2009 17:56

YANBU. I hate birthdays for this reason. At least DP made a fuss though! That would be the most important one for me, although parents, siblings not bothering is v hurtful

mum2all · 27/12/2009 17:57

Think yanbu at all - my family and inlaws all have birthdays around now (late nov to 1st week of jan, we have 13 separate b'days!!) and we make extra effort to ensure we still celebrate in some way - my mil loves a bbq, mad but def memorable!
I know folks are busy this time of year but a text takes a few moments and makes all the difference.

Hope this makes you smile-

'Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday PersonalClown,
Happy Birthday to you'

bb99 · 27/12/2009 17:58

Happy, Happy Birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Scream and shout all you like - I worked with someone whose birthday was 24th and when I first found out went 'wow, great' then she told me about the inevitable dearth of pressies and attention....aww.

BUT could you have an OFFICIAL birthday at about August time?? One of my mum's friends did this for her daughter as everyone was always too busy at Christmas to make enough of an effort, especially friends when she was a child (they'd all be roped into family stuff) and this meant that the Xmas birthday child still got to have a special time IYSWIM.

Happy Birthday to you!!!

TwoIfBySeasonsGreetings · 27/12/2009 17:59

At least you have a dp to remember for you. I hate reminding people so the 18th December passes without comment in the most part.

Come and join the pity party, especially for people born around the Christmas festivities. Damn you Jesus for spoiling it all!

DisElfchanted3 · 27/12/2009 18:00

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

Christmas birthdays suck, MIL wrapped DDs pressies in Xmas paper with Xmas tage (xmas eve)

Boooo!!!

navyeyelasH · 27/12/2009 18:01

Mins is the 23rd and always gets forgotten by everyone - I've decided to change it to the 23rd of February as of 2010 so lets hope that makes a difference!!

poorfrancesbean · 27/12/2009 18:02

I understand how you feel. My birthday is very early Jan and everyone is unanimously tired, insular, shopped out and uninterested in leaving their houses. Its a really depressing time to have a birthday as you are right in the post Christmas blues.

Your family are quite inconsiderate to not do anything though, that it a bit OTT even for the 27th. Very Happy Birthday from me

BouncingTurtle · 27/12/2009 18:03

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

I made you a cake

PS it is also DS's birthday, he has reached the grand old age of 2.

I do feel for you, am determined that DS's birthday won't be overlooked just because it is just after Christmas!

YANBU!

TubbyDuffs · 27/12/2009 18:09

At least your DP made an effort. Mine is in a couple of days and my DH said "No point going out for your birthday, might as well wait until everyone is back", as most of our friends are out of the country for Christmas at the mo. Well thanks a lot, what about taking me out for a nice meal you git! Hmmphhhhh

PersonalClown · 27/12/2009 18:12

Thank you all. You've made me blub.

To make things worse I've literally just had my cards shoved through the door with no knoock, hello or anything.

But you are all right. At least I have Dp, ds and my best mate to make a fuss of me. She will be doing that Tuesday as I made her go an see her newborn neice today. It would have been the only time she could see her for months if she didn't.

Now.... where's the beer and chocs??

OP posts:
BouncingTurtle · 27/12/2009 18:14

beer and chocolate

Here you go

sb6699 · 27/12/2009 18:17

There, there. Horrible isnt it, my DH is feeling the same. It was his birthday yesterday. Only me and the dc's seemed to acknowledge it.

His mate was supposed to come and watch the footie then babysit so we could go for a meal but went AWOL on the piss instead.

I hadnt bought anything to eat as we were supposed to be going out so ended up with leftover turkey for his "special dinner". At least I had bought a huge choccy cake and candles.

aJumpedUpChristmasElf · 27/12/2009 18:24

Happy Birthday.
Mine is this week as well. My lovely best friend has just been round and suggested that she organise something special to celebrate in the Summer because my birthday always gets lost in the Christmas/New Year celebrations.

Happy Birthday.

DD is 10 days old today, I am determined that she will never write a thread like this and will do all I can to make sure she always has a lovely birthday even if it is close to Christmas.

Make a fuss and hopefully they'll make more of an effort next year

Seona1973 · 27/12/2009 18:48

it's dh's today too. He got a pressie from me and one from the kids - even wrapped in birthday paper!! He did get a few cards for once although not one from his mum and dad. My mum texted him to say happy birthday so she gets a gold star too. My nephew was 5 on the 24th December so we had to go and make a fuss of him on christmas eve - poor soul (christmas birthdays are crap!)

CardyMow · 27/12/2009 18:53

I find that even end-of-November birthdays get overlooked, my DS2 is 27th November, and only 5 of his friends came to his b/day party on the 28th as the ice rink thingy in London opened that day, and all his friends were going there! He'd invited 32! Two of his presents came wrapped in Christmas paper, he was very disappointed. I would always make a fuss, but I have an Uncle whose b/day is on Boxing day, and our family always made a special effort with his birthday too. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

onepieceoflollipop · 27/12/2009 18:57

Happy Birthday. Celebrate twice, this is what we do for dd1 (early Jan)

She has a card and a couple of nice presents on the actual day. Then in the summer me and my mum make a massive fuss of her on a summer weekend. It works well because she then gets "summer" toys which would be no good in frosty January!

I am very lucky personally. My own mother arranged for me to be born in the middle of June

Abubu · 27/12/2009 19:05

Hi,

I know what you mean. Mine is 29th and when I was younger my own parents used to forget some years.

Happy Birthday from me!

geordieminx · 27/12/2009 19:05

Its mine on Tuesday, and I should imagine, if previous years are anything to go by, I will be starting a thread ewxactly the same as this.

I feel your pain.

Every year is exactly the same.

dollishillbilly · 27/12/2009 19:06

Christmas birthday? Sounds like an excellent excuse to nip down to the sales and buy an extravagant gift all for yourself.

I do ... and I'm born in July.

mum2all · 27/12/2009 19:47

Think the 'official' birthday in the summer idea is great I forgot a friend of mine used to do that when we were kids his b'day was xmas day but 25th june he had a big party/bbq and lots of fuss made. Who says you have to celebrate today anyway? With the added bonus that if you wait until June then you are 6 months younger as well - which counts a lot when you get to my age!!
