I find it v bizarre when people (usually women) go on about how she isn't that attractive really, too thin etc. Surely it is jealousy? Her face is literally perfect. Voice slightly annoying though.

OP posts:
ABetaDad · 23/12/2009 15:46

Sticking up for MayorQuimby who naturally also has a different preference in body size and hair colour to me.

msrisotto · 23/12/2009 15:47

I see your point something, it is more obvious when someone is a stone underweight than overweight. The health implications are more serious more quickly than being overweight.

skay123 · 23/12/2009 15:47

These photos are absolutly Eeeeeeewwwwwww.

So thin you can see the ribcage.

Escuse me while I throw up.

Bonsoir · 23/12/2009 15:48

She's very pretty indeed, and not particularly thin - she is naturally pear-shaped and needs to stay very slim indeed to prevent her bottom and thighs from getting out of control!

somethinganything · 23/12/2009 15:53

msrisotto - but there are many more people with health issues related to being overweight yet when we see examples of such people in the media we don't see fit to berate them all for obviously having a problem and setting a bad example to everyone who looks up to them.

Bonsoir - made me laugh out loud. (Despite obviously v serious nature of the discussion...)

badietbuddy · 23/12/2009 15:53

Ah, a healthy opinion as ever Bonsoir

mayorquimby · 23/12/2009 15:55

"In case you weren't aware, BMI is a measure of healthy body weight"
It's an awful measurement of body weight with reagrds to health riddled with failings.t is a handy first indicator though.
"
A society desiring underweight women impacts womens decisions on how they maintain their bodies and can, to some, cause unhealthy weight management."

Surely you are not blaming me for the desires of soceity as a whole?surely if anything I'm more likely to be influenced by soceity in which case I'm the real victim here.

"Again, not unhealthy for her perhaps but for most people it is."
She's the only person we've been discussing and any reference to other people has been done by way of analougy with her. So at no point have i said i want all women to starve themselves to look like KK regardless of their natural body-type.I have said i like naturally skinny women like KK.

"Prefering short men does not encourage men to put themselves in danger to achieve this."
nor does me preferring thin women.

"Bloke here. No sorry does nothing for me.

Each to their own though."

exactly. It really is a live and let live issue.

msrisotto · 23/12/2009 15:56

well there aren't many very overweight people in the media who aren't picked on for their weight are there? Vanessa Feltz, Anne Diamond, Stephen Fry, Dara O'Briain, can think of more spring to mind and they've all made efforts to lose weight to be healthier. They do get teased, though not treated with such disdain i'd agree.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 23/12/2009 15:57

Come on, she isn't too thin in that bikini pic. She has a 6 pack and shapely thighs. She has a small top half but that seems natural.

It's fine to have a preference for a certain body shape as long as that doesn't stray into preferring unhealthy bodies. People who fetishise skinny women are as odd and implicated in women's ill health as people who fetishise morbidly obese women.

mayorquimby · 23/12/2009 15:58

and when people expressed a soft spot or attraction to stephen fry, quite often on this web-site iirc, did you berate them for their warped body image issues and the bad affect they were having on soceity for praising someone who was over-weight?

NiceShoes · 23/12/2009 15:59

KN is scrawny and has poor gait, she looks elongated and effete.I find her acting terrible too.

hohoholepew · 23/12/2009 16:01

kate

vanessa

winona

Johnny likes his woman boyish thin.

mayorquimby · 23/12/2009 16:07

and batshit mental if kate and winona are anything to go by.

ImSoNotTelling · 23/12/2009 16:09

MQ what you said was "saying someone is too thin is like saying someone is too rich. It's normally not true and doesn't happen very often.
But then again I'm into thin in a big way."

That comment is incredibly silly. People can be too thin, it makes them ill and they can die. Celebrities who are very thin may well be achieving that look through unhealthy means, drugs/dieting etc. To dimsiss this concern by saying that celebrities who are very thin are "normally" perfectly healthy is to be dismissive to the very real problem of eating disorders.

I couldn't give a monkeys who you want to fuck, I do however reserve the right to pull you up on such a terribly crass comment.

somethinganything · 23/12/2009 16:10

But Vanessa Feltz, Anne Diamond etc have been really seriously overweight (not that I think that picking on them for that is acceptable either). But I'm just talking about comparing like for like i.e. a stone or two underweight compared with a stone or two overweight. (TBH, I had no idea that Stephen Fry had been picked on for being overweight - hadn't even noticed he was overweight for that matter.)

plantsitter · 23/12/2009 16:11

She is stunning. Stunningly bad at acting.

ThumbleBells · 23/12/2009 16:12

Who is KN?

TBH, I didn't think those pics of Alexa Chung were so awful either - she certainly doesn't look emaciated, as some commenter on the site suggested. She is thin, yes. You would probably be able to see her ribs if she had no clothes on, yes. But I could see my ribs for years (not now) and very few people (apart from my mum and overweight people) thought I was too thin, although I had a 24" waist and 33" bust and hips (naturally).

Emaciated is a different look - there would be little to no fat showing in the face as well; musculature is lost so that really only the bone structure is visible. The first bikini photo of KK is so obviously photoshopped because her face still shows normal plumpness, while the rest of the bod is indeed emaciated.

However - MQ, be warned - I did go out with one guy who was attracted to my ironing board figure because he was a closet gay - he's now out of the closet and much happier.

QwikNameChange · 23/12/2009 16:15

She's beautiful, I agree. YANBU

Divatheshopaholic · 23/12/2009 16:16

she is most overrated actress. i dont think she is that good at acting either, dont get me started at her body and beauty.
most of her films are her parents work anyway.

mayorquimby · 23/12/2009 16:17

"To dimsiss this concern by saying that celebrities who are very thin are "normally" perfectly healthy is to be dismissive to the very real problem of eating disorders."

give me a list of the celebrities i said are naturally thin but who actually suffer from eating disorders and I'll apologise right away.
and never did i claim that i have any knowledge of the percentage of celebrities who suffer from eating disorders.
what i did say however was that when most people claimed a celebrity was too thin they were not doing so out of any medical knowledge or concern for the celebrities well-being but that they were doing so from prefernce perspective. So I'll stand by it,for the most part when people look at a celebrity and say she's too thin they have nbo knowledge of wether or not they are suffering from an eating disorder and more to the point they couldn't give a fuck wether or not they do,they are simply judging their appearance on wether or not they like how they look and nothing to do with their health.

NiceShoes · 23/12/2009 16:18

She is a real luvvie, she does she have famous parents.Cant recall who though

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 23/12/2009 16:18

Where is the photoshopped pic? I really want to see it!

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 23/12/2009 16:19

Can't open the last link btw...

NiceShoes · 23/12/2009 16:20

Of course there was the The Guardian question "If you want to befriend a woman, ask her the question: 'What do you think of Keira Knightley?' In the resulting torrent of bile and loathing, you will bond.

mayorquimby · 23/12/2009 16:22

"However - MQ, be warned - I did go out with one guy who was attracted to my ironing board figure because he was a closet gay - he's now out of the closet and much happier."

uh oh,you said "be warned",bet you a tenner someone will now claim that such a negative pre-amble to discussing someone possible homosexuality is clear evidence of your own personal culpability for the prevailing homophobia of certain parts of soceity and the prblems many young teens face when confronting their sexuality.

Im 87% sure I'm not gay at the moment. however I'd agree with you alexa chung doesn't look unhealthy in those photos and I know people who's ribs you can see when they have no top on men and women who certainly wouldn't be considered unhealthily thin and then again i know some people who would be.
