I find it v bizarre when people (usually women) go on about how she isn't that attractive really, too thin etc. Surely it is jealousy? Her face is literally perfect. Voice slightly annoying though.

When I look at images of people starving around the world, and they are very thin, I don't think, well most of them are probably like that naturally.

Ditto when I see images of more extreme models, nicole ritchie and posh.

When I think someone is too thin, I am pretty sure they are usually too thin. To say they are "normally" not is ludicrous.

winnybella · 23/12/2009 15:17

FWIW I used to work in fashion and there were plenty of girls who were naturally skinny- skinnier than KK.
There were also plenty of anorexics.
I don't think you can tell by just looking at her photo.
She's v.skinny on top, but her legs are a normal size.
Frankly, I always wonder at the chorus of 'she's too thin". I find it hard to believe that everyone here prefers 'round' figures.
I find her charming, although not an amazing actress, and yes, there's something about her jaw that is a bit strange.

curryfreak · 23/12/2009 15:17

Mayjorquimby. My dH remarked recently, having had a conversation with some work colleagies on a night out,- that
men who find very skinny women attractive are secreatly attractive to men, (y'know straight up and down with no curves)

ImSoNotTelling · 23/12/2009 15:19

For you, mq

Just beautiful.

Bewler · 23/12/2009 15:19

"I'm in to thin in a big way"

Never going to go down well on a predominantly female thread IMO. We all like to think that blokes actually prefer women with a few curves on em and that its women who champion the "thin is in" POV. Prob makes a few of us uncomfortable to hear that from a man.

JodieO · 23/12/2009 15:20

I don't think she's pretty at all and I'm not jealous in the slightest. I also think that she looks emaciated. Now Angelina Jolie, she looks perfect to me or Charlize Theron, they are really beautiful women.

mayorquimby · 23/12/2009 15:21

"it doesn't happen very often" is ridiculous"

I'd stand by it. I was referring to people talking about celebrities and for the most part assertations that an actress is too thin is more often than not a statement of preference rather than one based upon medical knowledge or a true opinion that they are suffering from an actual eating disorder or a weight problem, Ditto with when people talking about celebrities being "too fat" they are normally opinions on wether or not they look good and very very rarely a statement on wether or not their weight is affecting their health.

somethinganything · 23/12/2009 15:21

Hmm, I do think she's very attractive but also quite odd-looking but that's sometimes the way isn't it.

as for the "too thin" thing - I actually do think she'd be more attractive if she was a bit bigger but then she would probably agree. I imagine it's her natural body shape and you get what you're given. I'm also pretty scrawny (when not 7 months pregnant) and get sick to death of people telling me I'm "too thin" and implying there must be something wrong with me.

On occasion think her acting has been quite cringe-worthy but saw her in the Misanthrope recently and have to say she did a v good job with a difficult script. Pulled it off as well if not better than the rest of the cast.

thatsnotmymonster · 23/12/2009 15:21

mayorquimby- you may like thin women but it is well known that most famous female celebs are too thin. They eat virtually nothing and it is very dangerous for their health.

And yes, it is men like you that do give rise to easting disorders in young women.

nikki1978 · 23/12/2009 15:22

Ooh yes Angelina Jolie would definitely get it

msrisotto · 23/12/2009 15:23

Well, if the minority of women are naturally as thin as KK (veering dangerously close to unhealthily thin) and this body type is a real preference of yours, your preference isn't normal.
I can understand being particularly attracted to a healthy body type (not overly large, not overly small)but not this rail thin thing that is very close to being unhealthy. She's much more attractive with clothes on, the bikini photo is uncomfortable to look at.

mayorquimby · 23/12/2009 15:26

"Mayjorquimby. My dH remarked recently, having had a conversation with some work colleagies on a night out,- that

oooooooooooooh shit. Am i going to have to face up to some home truths and have an awkwards conversation with my OH this Christmas???

Perhaps but hell i may as well stick to my guns. fwiw i think mens preferences are a bit all over the place just like womens. And my penchant for thin women doesn't mean i'm exclusively attracted to them just in an ideal world they are probably my type in the looks department although i am mildly obsessed with Kelly Brook and MB as mentioned earlier in the thread.
As for my friends a lot of them are baffled by my attraction to thin women like KK as well for many of the same reasons the women on this thread are.

DisElfchanted3 · 23/12/2009 15:27

Mmmmmmm i love Angelina, well about 5 years ago when she had some curves! Shes gone too thin now.

badietbuddy · 23/12/2009 15:28

It's useless to try to demonstrate a 'too thin' picture with an obviously photo shopped one. Try this article Alexa Chung imo is far far too thin

somethinganything · 23/12/2009 15:28

msrisotto would be v wary of saying that because someone likes thin women (and we have no evidence to support the idea that she is unhealthy) their preference is normal. Would you say the same about someone who naturally preferred larger women e.g. those who are technically a stone overweight

mayorquimby · 23/12/2009 15:30

"but it is well known that most famous female celebs are too thin. "

What's your source for this?

"And yes, it is men like you that do give rise to easting disorders in young women."

I'd be interested to hear any evidence you have for such an ccusation. What have i, or men like me (baffled to know what men like me are or is the sole link fancying thin women?), done to give rise to eating disorders?

DisElfchanted3 · 23/12/2009 15:30

When I think of women in regards to their sexiness I just automatically think of round boobs and bum, women like that don't have any! Surely that what makes a womanly figure - her curves?

I genuinly don't see the atrration on sticking out ribs, tiny spindly limbs and no boobs or bum.

somethinganything · 23/12/2009 15:30

sorry that should have read "their preference is not normal"...

Anyway, i expect you caught my drift

msrisotto · 23/12/2009 15:31

I know what you're saying something and I hesitated about posting that but it's the extremity of it. As a society, we already prefer the very thin side of healthy. A person who is a stone overweight isn't as dangerously unhealthy as someone who is as thin as the slebs we're talking about here. If mq was someone who loved the obese people, i'd think he was mental too.

mayorquimby · 23/12/2009 15:36

"Well, if the minority of women are naturally as thin as KK (veering dangerously close to unhealthily thin) and this body type is a real preference of yours, your preference isn't normal."

I never said it was normal. i did however object to the assertation that such a preference was somehow unhealthy. For a lot of women being attracted to short men would put them in the minority, so by your logic that is not normal. It doesn't make it unhealthy or them weird for having such a preference.
you follow this up once again with statements of preference
"She's much more attractive with clothes on, the bikini photo is uncomfortable to look at.
"
which would insinuate that somehow it's ok for you to judge her weight because your judgment is negative about it where as mine is positive.

And i can't keep a track of your logic on the one hand your saying KK is naturally thin but on the other your saying it's dangerously close to unhealthy.which is it?natural or unhealthy?

"Kiera may be that thin naturally, i don't doubt it "
"are naturally as thin as KK (veering dangerously close to unhealthily thin) "

somethinganything · 23/12/2009 15:36

Again, have to agree with MQ on this one - Depression, magazines, fashion industry, there's a long list of factors that probably contribute to eating disorders but it would be v difficult to place the small percentage of men who find skinny women attractive on said list

Bewler · 23/12/2009 15:38

Isn't it a case of "whatever floats your boat"? If skinnies rock your world then so be it but there are plenty of men who dislike that look (my DH being one of them, thank god). I don't agree with the encouraging eating disorders comment.... If someone expressed a preference for seriously beefed up muscley men would that person be guilty of encouraging men to develop steriods abuse...!?

ABetaDad · 23/12/2009 15:41

Bloke here. No sorry does nothing for me.

Each to their own though.

msrisotto · 23/12/2009 15:43

MQ this isn't a difficult concept to grasp. She CAN be naturally thin as she is, however, her BMI is probably very very low. In case you weren't aware, BMI is a measure of healthy body weight. People who have a very low on BMI should probably put on weight to be healthy. Saying she looks really attractive encourages a generally unhealthy body type. Again, not unhealthy for her perhaps but for most people it is.

Prefering short men does not encourage men to put themselves in danger to achieve this.
A society desiring underweight women impacts womens decisions on how they maintain their bodies and can, to some, cause unhealthy weight management.

somethinganything · 23/12/2009 15:44

msrisotto - I know what you mean about preference for skinny but I think that's more to do with the media than the average person on the street.

But I just don't agree that a stone underweight and a stone overweight are judged in the same way. For example my best friend is technically two stone overweight, I think she looks great (great boobs, lovely curvy hips) but she's insists she wants to lose the weight and is probably right that in the long run it's better for her health. She's probably between a size 14 and 16. If a man you knew were to say "I find women like that much more attractive than say women who are a size 8, and a stone underweight" - there'd be no question of anyone suggesting it was an abnormal preference. I just think skinny people are judged differently - perhaps partly because a stone each way really shows up on an already slight frame but there's a definite double standard there.
