MIL here for 3 weeks, and she does not stop talking. She does not leave DS(2) alone, he is completely hyped up, just had half an hour of him eating a magnum( yes a proper sized magnum)and her giving me a running commentary. She follows me everywhere, always asking what I am doing.
God give me patience.
Oh and every time he fills his nappy she says he has "done a whoopsie"
Running commentary on the weather, on what she is listening to on the radio.. and yesterday she asked me what a "leg-buckling orgasm was?"!!!!!

YANBU!! Duck tape?? Cross stitch her mouth shut if you're remotely crafty?? AGGGHHH!! would drive me insane. Sometimes I'm glad I'm single ATM so I don't have to put up with IL's!!

CardyMow · 23/12/2009 11:56

OH and at leg-buckling orgasm....SHE'S obviously never had one!!

ihatetinselbob · 23/12/2009 12:08

Go and run yourself a nice warm bath, take a glass of wine and shut yourself away for an hour.
Let her deal with the after effects of ds and his magnum!

skinsl · 23/12/2009 12:16

and why does she constantly leave a clean plate and knife out on the kitchen counter? In case she needs an emergency piece of toast??!!
Given her a job to do, she is putting a hem on my trousers.. she made me take them off cos they were too long.
I am going to Homebase to escape.. never thought I would say that!!

Tell her its a kind of pudding they sell in M&S. You will find it easier to ignore the chat because you just need to imagine her asking the nice young man in M&S....

we have friends coming over tomorrow, so when I said to DS that his friend was coming over tomorrow, she said

MIL- "no, not tomorrow"
Me -yes, tomorrow Xmas Eve
MIL-tomorrow isn't Xmas Eve
Me- yes, tomorrow, thursday 24th
MIL- where's that calendar?

2 hours later.
MIL- you are right, it's Xmas Eve tomorrow.

I might just write here to vent!!

Poor you!! Go anywhere to escape for an hour. Can you use her to look after your DS so you can have some alone time? Why on earth wouldn't she believe its xmas eve? I hate it when people have to check that something you have told them is right! It sounds like she just wants an excuse to talk.

Numberfour · 23/12/2009 18:48

LOL!! you poor thing! it would drive me stark raving mad.

good luck.......

skinsl · 23/12/2009 21:22

I know she just wants to be with DS, but she keeps saying "that's mine" and taking things off him. AARRGGGHH!
And eating his dinner.. she says "is that mine" and eats it. Leave him alone!
He is getting annoyed with her and he is really sweet to everyone

GL!! Sounds like you need it

Bless her, though. She does sound rather batty but heart in the right place.

skinsl · 23/12/2009 21:37

Yeah, I feel a bit mean, because she does mean well, but I have to get it out of my system. She just wants to talk and be friends with me and DS. She is used to doing her own thing, been on her own for 30 odd years and she is a long way from home.
She's gone to bed now and DH asleep on the couch, so a bit of peace and quiet at last.

skinsl, my PILs do the clean plate and knife on the side thing too, I think it IS in fact for an emergency piece of toast!

DH and I will be plotting our escape, good luck to you!
