Not a girls' watch or a boys' watch. Just a watch with a strap small enough for her wrist. She is too old for Dora the Explorer or Thomas the Tank Engine. She doesn't like pink and isn't keen on flowers all over everything. Nor does she like High School bloody Musical! Nor Ben Ten or Transformers. THere are a few watches that are included in both lists but why does Argos insist on putting them in either? Why can't there just be Children's watches - the purchaser can decide whether to buy it for a boy or a girl.

I know it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things but it is one of those minor irritations of modern life.

Try a Swatch Watch. I have tiny wrists and have a hard time finding anything to fit that doesn't look monstrous even though I'm an adult. They have really nice styling too.

Agree with Swatch watches. I brought DS a flik flak one nearly 3 years ago and it still working perfectly. Which I think is good going on a watch for a boy from 6 to 9 next year as it has had a lot of bumps and dunkings.

Thanks. I have seen some Swatch watches but was a bit at the prices TBH. This isn't a christmas pressie, but an extra as a thankyou. Timex do some nice coloured jelly watches. But they had to be included in both lists

Mmm, they are definitely a bit pricey but today I am wearing a pretty bog-standard one that has survived 8 years' worth of being stuffed into gym kit bags, dropped, washed, swum in, kayaked over and general ill-usage (and still runs on the original battery) so they are a good long-term investment! Other than that, YANBU to be annoyed.

I don't know how old your dd is Orm but my skinny wristed 11 year old has a plain black strap watch from Debenhams that was £15

OrmIrian · 21/12/2009 10:12

DD is 10 fimbow. I will try Debenhams. But won't be able to get there till after Christmas.

It is this but in black (I must say it looks 1000 times better in rl!).

We got this one for DD (7) and she loves it - www.amazon.co.uk/Timex-Youth-T790614E-Reader-Strap/dp/B0009NZKTE/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&s=watch& qid=1261403097&sr=1-13
Sorry - can't do links!

Thankyou everyone. Got a Timex - very simple round face with a pale pink leather watch. Was quite surprised about the pink but DD liked it.

YANBU at all. I had the same trouble when looking for a watch for my DD too. Only wanted a cheap one because she isn't bothered by name brands and it didn't need to have many functions.

I eventually found one on ebay for a fiver so ended up quite pleased but they're not easy to come by, you have to search.

duckyfuzz · 21/12/2009 19:30

flikflaks are great, they can go in the washing machine too, worth the ££

Hulababy · 21/12/2009 19:33

DD has a flik flak watch too and I do recommend them. Really good, and keep time well too.

They do tend to be quite gender specific IME though - so lots of pink sparkles for girls.

YANBU - and its not just watches - childrens cameras, CD players, easter eggs, clothes, etc - I have trouble finding stuff for a girl who hates pink and isn't into HSM or Ben10 or whatever. Even finding a nice magazine - her sister loves the disney princess and barbie ones, but there's very little out there to appeal to girls that hate pink. She just likes pretty stuff in colours other than pink. I has real trouble finding pyjamas "with no pink on them at all" - I eventually found quite a pretty green pair in Next, but it took a lot of looking - Ok, rant over. She's got a lovely turquoise watch my mum bought her, not sure where from though.
