yanbu
It's no-one's business what you pay for a house

nickytwotimes · 19/12/2009 20:38

Yanbu.

Bloody nosey!

ANyway, if she waits a few months she can look it up online anyway.

Lonicera · 19/12/2009 20:39

nickytwotimes · 19/12/2009 20:41

Hope all goes well for you and you are nicely settled for Christmas. Well, apart froma few boxes...

Lonicera · 19/12/2009 20:42

hell yes nicki

CatchaStar · 19/12/2009 20:44

That's rude of her, you don't ask people that kind of stuff!

It's personal, no yanbu.

MaggieAnFiaRua · 19/12/2009 20:49

Cheeky mare.

i've had conversations like that. I mentioned to an old school friend that i had a deposit on a house saved. (i don't own my own house yet though...). i was only mentioning it in passing, and he said a five per cent deposit or a ten percent deposit? and i said, well, more than five, but obviously it depends how much the house I'd be buying was sold for!! then he said, so would you have a 10% deposit then? on a 3 bed or on a 2 bed ?

i couldn't believe it!!!

MaggieAnFiaRua · 19/12/2009 20:50

ps, congratulations btw. it must be so exciting

FabioTwitterCat · 19/12/2009 20:59

I think you missed a golden opportunity to wind her up a treat.

Judy1234 · 19/12/2009 21:01

none of her business and of course she can look it up and find the price on nethouseprices.com in due course anyway

blueshoes · 19/12/2009 21:08

True, Xenia.

She/You can probably find out now how much the owner you bought your house from, paid for it, from that website.

ChippingIn · 20/12/2009 03:49

I bought a house tiny flat earlier this year and I have been amazed at the number of people who have asked me how much I paid for it! Now, I'm a nosey bint curious person by nature and would discuss things like this with friends, but would show some restraint at asking neighbours, school gate parents etc as I accept it's not the 'done thing' - then I'd just look it up on the net .

I told anyone that asked - I figure it's not a state secret & I don't care who knows and if they want to they can look it up on the net....BUT, I think in your situation winding her up would be much more fun

OhChristmasTEEOhChristmasTEE · 20/12/2009 04:01

When people ask me things like that I always answer 'More than £1'. They are usually so stunned they shut up.

SlobbyBOB · 20/12/2009 04:39

Tell her more than you can afford really but you have a sideline sorted to make ends meet doing incalls.

How nosey! YANBU.

One of my favourite Billy Connolly sketches was when he was talking about a group of friends he was with at the pub and everyone discussing how much their houses were worth.

One guy asked Billy's friend (who rented a council house) "how much would you get if you sold your house", to which he replied "about 20 years"!

I had hoped that the British obsession with property and it's monetary value would be suppressed by the recent economic crisis. Sadly not.

Mishy1234 · 20/12/2009 08:17

Congratulations btw!

(also, apologies for the dire punctuation!)

You could always ask her how much she paid for hers

Exchanging and completing on the same day adds to the madness that is moving house but I am sure it will all be fine.

Hopefully you will have your broadband set up soon and you can tell us the delights and highlights of moving.

I am still convinced my buyers will pull out, we are in a 2 house chain, ours and the one we are buying.
