Went to CostCo this afternoon & they were giving out free samples of various wines,as we were walking down the drinks aisle a couple were walking towards us with a little girl who looked about 20mths old sitting in their trolley.

Little girl was leaning towards to the wine samples & the Mum said to the Da 'oh look she wants some white wine'

We had just walked past them & then the Mum walked back to the tray of samples & got a glass & then gave it to the little girl.

Both me & dh raised our eyebrows & tbh i though she was just messing about but we passed them in the next aisle & the little girl was drinking the wine.

I must admit both me & dh judged them & surely this is not right?

Is it? BTW the glasses are not thimble sized they are quite big.

Just off to make dinner so will be back later to see if i am being ott.

It's illegal to give alcoholic drinks to children under 5 in the UK.

I think you're right to be appalled by what you saw.

My DD is 20 months old, there is no way I would give her even a thimbleful of wine.

I might laugh if I saw her reaching for some in a little glass, but I certainly wouldn't give her any for my own amusement.

URNB Mrs Judgey Knickers. I would have been shocked at that one.

StealthPolarBear · 19/12/2009 16:27

can understand when they're old enough to realise that they are getting a grown up drink (so 11 or 12ish) but 20 months

nannynobnobs · 19/12/2009 16:28

Wow, I can't imagine a child that young even liking the taste. My dds have swiped a taste of lager and pulled disgusted faces.
You can't give a baby booze!

Thankyou, when the Mum said oh look she wants some white wine we both thought she was just saying that but then when she said i am going back to get her some ]fshock] well we were both shocked.

Are you sure it was wine, did they have a bottle of non-alco stuff on show as well (tho admit that is doubtful)
If it really was wine, I think that is appalling, would have been tempted to report it.

Judge away!

picmaestress · 19/12/2009 16:33

I don't understand how or why any parent wouldn't know that alcohol is incredibly dangerous to give to a baby.

Is this post for real? Am slightly baffled as to why you would ask if this is unreasonable...

DoingTheBestChristmasICan · 19/12/2009 17:09

Yes this post is real,it def wasnt non
alcoholic wine.

I wanted the MN jury to judge on this one as obviously some parents think it is ok to give very young children wine.
