to wonder if this is cruel?

Neighbours have two labs. They sleep at night in a kennel. The kennel has woodshavings on the floor and the dogs sleep together in it. You may wonder how I know about the woodshavings (my sisters lad plays with their child and I got him to check)

It's about minus 3 here at the moment-is it a case for the RSPCA or am I being OTT?

they have fur coats. they'll be fine.

ChloeHandbag · 18/12/2009 20:32

ott they're fine.

Also you don't know, dd's ginea pigs have a microwavable warming thing in their hutch they could have something like that.

GetDownYouWillFall · 18/12/2009 20:32

I think that's a bit cruel. At least there are two of them to cuddle up.

chegirlwithbellson · 18/12/2009 20:32

Lots of dogs live outside. Labs have a lovely layer of fat to keep them warm

If they were mine I think I would make adjustments to take account of the extra cold weather though.

RSPCA will not be interested if they have adequate shelter, food and water.

Alambil · 18/12/2009 20:33

IF they're used to it, I'm sure they'll be fine. They have each other, bedding and are sheltered from the wind

Does the kennel have a door?

victoriascrumptious · 18/12/2009 20:33

They arnt shaved. If I spotted someone shaving a dog I would be straight on the phone to the police no doubt

No I don't think it is cruel at all. I have 2 labs and, although they sleep in the house nowadays, I previously stayed on a farm and they slept in the old byre on straw. They are very resilient and will get plenty of body heat from each other.

victoriascrumptious · 18/12/2009 20:33

No door on the kennel Lewis

They arnt crying or barking-do you think they'd do this if they were too cold?

I know, i'm a fusspot

If they are labs, they weren't bred to live indoors. A friend has a munsterlander (sp?), which is a similar-sized dog that, like the labs, was originally bred as an outside dog. She used to get really uncomfortable in a centrally heated winter house.

victoriascrumptious · 18/12/2009 20:42

Did you mean they are bred to live outdoors Dragon or they are not?
