To think that sensitive souls should stay out of the bull ring?

I dunno, maybe AIBU is too nasty. Or maybe its a welcome slap to wake you up when you're being silly. Or maybe its like a nice big bunfight where people can put on the judgy pants and let rip in a witty, barbed but no hard feelings kind of way.

Whatever, it is what it is. AIBU to be annoyed/bored by people who get all defensive/ mortally offended/ weepy at being told they are being rather U?

YABU
Some people can be really nasty on AIBU. Instead of just saying YABU they tell the op that they are a complete cunt and deserve to be shot or kicked to death by a group of crazed camels

But

YANBU because some people surely must realise that they are being unreasonable , they surely can't think that it is normal behavour.
"AIBU to make my 97 yo father sleep on the sofa instead of giving him my bed at Christmas?" Of course you are you loon ! Why would anyone think that it is not unreasonable and a bit mad
"AIBU to poison my neighbour cat because it chases the birds in my garden?" - Crazy fucker!
Just completely made up examples btw

QandA · 17/12/2009 15:52

It is a mixture of all of those things, but sometimes it goes beyond brutal honesty, which I like in AIBU and in to the realms of nastiness. Mostly though it's just a good solid debate.

AMumInScotland · 17/12/2009 15:56

It can get a bit too harsh at times, when it goes beyond "What you're suggesting is stupid" and into "and you're a smelly person who nobody likes" - after all, it's still a human being who is posting, even if they appear to be a complete nutter...

But you do wonder why some posters get so hurt by YABU responses - we still need a section labelled "Tell me I'm right" for those who didn't really want an honest answer.

MintyCandyCane · 17/12/2009 15:58

YABU

I think that often people blunder into the bull ring thinking it is alovely comfy old coffee shop. It is not really their fault and it can be brutal.

tiredemma · 17/12/2009 16:01

I am a great fan of the Bullring in Bham. Especially Selfridges.

V.nice

porcamiseria · 17/12/2009 16:06

i agree, there are other talkboards for sensitive issues and many times I wish people had gone there instead BUT surely they can read and have read whats it like here????? so YANBU

MadameDefarge · 17/12/2009 16:15

I think you are being unreasonable to start a thread about a thread where the poster wasn't actually upset, just engaged with those who disagreed with her. Your interpretation is U. This post is U

YABU

Madascheese · 17/12/2009 16:15

Oh God! Is not the way people talk to each other in real life then???? I thought this banter was just normal.....

Clearly I have had a hard life and I didn't even know it....

duffyfluck · 17/12/2009 16:43

not a thread about a thread, per se, as I'm not sure which of many you are speaking of madame, rather inspired by a multitude so to speak.

See at this point as the OP I can do several things;
a) Say, I see the consensus is IABU, so I will bow to wisdom and reconsider, which is admirable but a little dull for entertainment purposes
b) say, hmmmm, lots of YABU's but I'm still convinced of myself, y'all meander on with the thread though
or (the one that makes me )
c) say either how dare you tell me I'm U, you don't know me, theres lots more info drip drip, you're all bastards anyway, rant rant
or stop picking on me, this is so unfair, I'm so not U and I'm off to cry now you big meanies.

I don't get it. Do people not read a few AIBU's before posting?

OP posts:
MadameDefarge · 17/12/2009 16:54

well, if its c), then yeah, annoying.

But sometimes AIBU's are quite lighthearted. And posters should realise that too.

bibbitybobbitysantahat · 17/12/2009 16:57

Heh heh heh!

MadameDefarge · 17/12/2009 17:01

bibs, you are meant to be crying behind the bike sheds at all that bullying....get out of here! Let the hard girls handle it!

bibbitybobbitysantahat · 17/12/2009 17:04

Oh yes thats right I need to get over to Chat. Much fluffier. Far more my style. I'll be over ====> there if you need me.

MintyCandyCane · 17/12/2009 17:05

bibs is like so not crying, she is sharing a hot toddy with me behind the bike shed - as soon as I can work out how to make one.

MadameDefarge · 17/12/2009 17:06

ok, hun.

two minutes four seconds since I last had childish and unworthy thoughts

ChickensHaveNoTinsel · 17/12/2009 17:07
MadameDefarge · 17/12/2009 17:10

Cos ginorm is psychic, innit?

Hot toddy? Rank, man, rank. Just hold a lighter under a bottle of WKD and there ya go!

MintyCandyCane · 17/12/2009 17:13

those ginormoboobs pick up radio signals with all sorts of info

ChickensHaveNoTinsel · 17/12/2009 17:19

Nipples like antennae, eh?

MarioandLuigi · 17/12/2009 17:20

I thought you meant the one in Birmingham.

I wouldnt be going this time of year, would be packed to the rafters!

MaggieAnFiaRua · 17/12/2009 17:23

i think aibu is a bear pit. i'm not particularly sensitive, but whenever i've posted a question on aibu, i've been mocked, abused, criticised, accused of being a troll, told i was disgusting....

i like the humour of mumsnet and i'm not a ticker [hugs] hun type, but there are limits, and sometimes i think aibu is awful. some people sniff blood and wade in too enthusiastically.

ChickensHaveNoTinsel · 17/12/2009 17:28

AIBU is best used as a place to look for a fight. Personally, I suspect that this section becomes wildly attractive when you're premenstrual.

MadameDefarge · 17/12/2009 17:39

I will heartily agree that abusive posts are not necessary on AIBU. But there aren't that many people who just wade in swearing and stuff, and i tend to ignore them anyway.

Disagree with the post, not the poster.

MintyCandyCane · 17/12/2009 17:39

I agree it is the PMT thread

Tortington · 17/12/2009 17:43

i agree with the op

if you think you are genuinley NOT being unreasonable

why post in AIBU.

becuase 9/10 times we will all say YABU.

thats the irony of the thing.

its only been a recent phemonenon hwere people (must be newbs?) are posting serious AIBUs

its a place to post when you know you are BU.

not to gauge proper opinion

fuckwits.

so DO ONE if you don't like it.

numpties.
