Usually we go back to my family in Ireland for xmas. This year I've got a job in a pub which means mucho shifts over xmas so we're staying here.

It's going to be our first proper wee family xmas. DD is 14 months. I'm really looking forward to watching her play with the paper open her presents and to having a relaxing day of food, pj's and wine!

DP has a mate from uni (not a very close mate-he's seen him once in about 6 months) whose family are in Hong Kong. It's been mentioned to DP (by another mutual friend) that this friend is going to be on his own for xmas and could we invite him to ours.

I told DP I didn't want to do this. I don't know him very well but from what I do know I find him immature and hard to talk to.

AIBU??

it hink its not really in the spirit of the thing

ThumbleBells · 17/12/2009 11:31

EEEeeepp at tearing stretch mark open - bet that stung!

C'mon, spill the beans...

BunnyLebowski · 17/12/2009 11:38

Agh Custy trust you to be the voice of dissent!

I don't see it that way I'm afraid. This is the first year we can really enjoy dd and we can initiate some lovely family traditions.

That's too important to me to have disrupted by somebody who can make other plans. All of his mates are single and childless - let them all have a single childless drunken xmas!

I hate being seen as the Ma Larkin of the group, whose house is somewhere to go get fed and watered for free.

good on yer, girl - stick to your guns! You'll have all the waifs and strays dropping for a quick drink if you're not careful...

TheShowMustGoOn · 17/12/2009 11:41

It's a long and fairly grim story actually. So apologies.

My exH was an abusive twat and one night I'd been out drinking with friends - came back and he was violent. I told him I'd call the police so he threw my mobile and house phone out of the window where they landed on the flat roof out the back. I went to neighbours and had him arrested.

So then It was 3am and I was stuck in shaking I was so upset and realised was drunk and in charge of two smll DC so needed to get a friend round. I foolishly thought I could squeeze out of the top part of a double glazed window - get onto the roof and retrieve phones and climb back in.

On the way out I got stuck with one leg and most of my body out but scraped the insides of my thighs as I did it - I was hanging there for a good 10 miutes realising I couldn't get back in so the only way was out - also realising that the roof might not be strong enough to actually hold my weight. So I sort of dove out (scraping and bruising more)

I threw the phones in , caught my breath and then realised I was stuck on the roof and it may have been wise to call the firebrigade or something before throwing my mobile inside. Plus allsorts was running through my head 'how the hell do I explan this etc.

SSo I decided to try a different approach to get back in and basically hauled myself through head first, scraping my stomach along the frame and then doing a handstand crawl sort of thing back into the room.

Oh my god.

Thank god have wonderful friends as one of them came straight over as soon as I got back in.

Thankfully I can find it hilarious now.

Oh, oh - that's dreadful, TSMGO! you poor thing.
Hope you didn't end up with permanent scar?

TheShowMustGoOn · 17/12/2009 11:53

I did but it is almost the same as my appendix scar just on the other side so is nicely symmetrical haha

NancyDrewRocks · 17/12/2009 12:05

After your OP I thought YABU but having read the rest of the thread the mate is clearly a tw@t and you shouldn't feel in the slightest bit guilty.

Enjoy Christmas!

PS best stuck in a window with accompanying pics story ever!
