Link here, discussion regarding the Ugandan legislation against homosexuality.

The comments are absolutely disgusting. The money we pay for our TV license is giving these ignorant twats a platform, it's awful. How can this even be a matter for discussion, should homosexuals be executed? NO! It's pretty cut and bloody dry!

I am at work so might not be able to respond quickly!

Unfortunately, even ignorant twats have a right to an opinion and a voice. Its a case of "I despise what you say but I'll defend to the death your right to say it".

YANBU to despise what they are saying though.

fernie3 · 16/12/2009 13:43

I cant believe the bbc is publishing those comments! they are awful and the bbc doesnt normally allow a comment thats so anti anything. Whats happened to their moderators?

ooojimaflip · 16/12/2009 13:44

Lots of idiots and astroturf on the bbc site....

ifyoulikeitsomuchwhydontyougolivethere.com/

ImSoNotTelling · 16/12/2009 14:04

Majority of the comments are saying the bill is disgusting though.

I also don't understand why they have put it up for debate. Maybe it is a clever ploy to expose the ridiculous thinking of homophobic bigots?

girlafraid · 16/12/2009 14:27

A useful rule to live by is to NEVER visit the BBC have your say talk boards

They are frequented by the worst type of daily mail reading, going to hell in a hand cart, political correctness gone mad type idiots

Ewe · 16/12/2009 15:43

I have never seen the have your say board before and I shan't be visiting again. I can't imagine what they hoped to gain from having this 'debate'.

And yes, there are plenty of normal comments on there but Chris from Guildford is rather appallingly the most recommended comment.

OP posts:
gagamama · 16/12/2009 15:55

Good God. What cutting-edge issues will they be discussing next? "Should women be allowed to learn to read?" "Should we asphyxiate Jews?"

Scorpette · 16/12/2009 17:12

Hey, ooojimaflip, do you visit Speak You're Branes, then? I am a regular commenter!

sweetnitanitro · 16/12/2009 17:18

Speak You're Branes is a lifesaver. The HYS forum is awash with BNP morons and their multiple sock puppets so I wouldn't worry too much, it's not representative of the general public.

Awassailinglookingforanswers · 16/12/2009 17:20

girlafraid has it - those HYS forums are awful - I haven't looked at the comments on there - but from past debates that I have dared to look at they've been prett appalling stuff that they're saying - so hence I avoid them - there's no such thing as a debate on there.

GroundHoHoHogs · 16/12/2009 18:24

Looks like it's been shut down anyway... That was quick!

It's on African Have Your Say, which often carries very, very different fora to the types usually found on the UK HYS.

Doesn't of course make it any more pleasant reading, but having lived in Africa, I can say that life and corresponding POV are often about as far opposed as you can get in comparison to what we are used to in the West.

VirginPeachyMotherOfSpod · 16/12/2009 18:29

The twats areprobably movinga crossfrom ITV who cut theit text based opnion provision recently- bit of a shame I felt as they were best corralled into one place IMO,and there needs to be options other than the DM

OKa bit harsh but recent ideas have included stopping benefits for divorced women (huh?- and the men...?0 and no benefits for anyone who has never paid- including the disabled.fabbo then

That was mainly representative of a certain class of the elderly who were of the belief that only people who fought in The War were entitled to anything.
