to want DH to call me "My Wife"

when talking about me to someone else, and not "My Girlfriend"?

Or is it just me being highly strung and I should let him get used to it as we only got married in September?
I actually think it's plenty of time to get used to saying "My Wife". I say "My Husband" without hesitation!

Gie the guy a chance!

Ds and I ususally refer to each other by our names - I am always a little suspicious of people who never name their partners.

Vivia · 15/12/2009 15:10

I completely agree with nicky. OP this makes you sound incredibly needy. They are just words - your DH married you, he loves you and is committed to you. But you are angry because he doesn't use the term 'wife'? You are in a good, committed relationship. Calm down!

Fruitbatlings · 15/12/2009 15:10

really? How much of a chance?
When does it becomes grounds for separation?

Give him till January.

Iklboodolphtherednosereindeer · 15/12/2009 15:11

I signed my maiden name in hotels for weeks after we got married (I was working in London/living in Manchester at the time)

Fruitbatlings · 15/12/2009 15:11

Right then, girlfriend it is then!

I think you should ask him to start referring to you as either 'her indoors' or 'the ball and chain' instead.

Fruitbatlings · 15/12/2009 15:18

oh yes I'd much prefer 'the ball and chain'

Duchess or Goddess would be even better....

I think I would be a little sad too. We got married in August & although it felt a bit strange to say it out loud, we both enjoyed calling each other husband/wife as it reflected the amazing & exciting thing we felt it was to get married. Does he wear a ring? If he does, it may be assumed by strangers that you're the OW!

IfYouCouldWouldYou · 15/12/2009 15:27

I'm usually "The Missus" but any kind of ackknowledgement that i exist will do.....I'm not fussed!!

Fruitbatlings · 15/12/2009 15:29

Floopy, yes he wears a ring. How exciting, I've never been 'the other woman' before! Hahaha

Seriously now, it is a little disappointing to hear.
I am happy to admit that I am being a little stressy about it, as long as it doesn't take him too long to automatically call me his wife

Ah, DH sometimes refers to me as his girlfriend. I think it's quite romantic! I am his girlfriend.. and his wife!

PlumBumandBaublesMum · 15/12/2009 15:34

poor man your giving him mixed messages yesterday you wanted to leave him

I wouldn't mind if dh called me his girlfriend, because I was a size10 then, and that would mean he still sees me like that

Fruitbatlings · 15/12/2009 17:22

I know PlumBum This is what happens. We make up and it's ok again but deep down I'm still not happy. The girlfriend/wife thing doesn't help! Don't want to bring that thread to AIBU though.

Want a bit of light heartedness

You could always say "What girlfriend is that then?" when he says it . One of my colleagues took a long while to switch words after he married his longtime girlfriend, but another colleague saying "What if your wife finds out?" when he'd mentioned his "girlfriend" did tend to get him to realise what he'd said...
