Sorry is proberly a bit of a rant1

About a month ago we asked MIL what she and her children (my dp has a teenage brothers and sister) would like for Christmas. The reply was- "well I bought myself a jumper the other day- you could buy that if you like" and "and I have bought (dps little sisters name) some shoes that you could give her"!

I actually like buying and giving presents but do ask what the would like so that I am not way off the mark IYKWIM.

After a lot of "are you sure?", "we would love to buy you something" we gave up.

Today I said can I pick up pressies to wrap, Id like them to match the others we are sending to the family and be able to write our own messages on the tags (call me anal if you will), and she said "No its fine I have done them and they are under the tree". WHAT?!

We are 22 and 25, my dp own his own business, we have a morgage and a baby, surely we are capable of more than this?

And before everyone says she is trying to help, I have a sneaky suspicion she is just trying to control everybody, grrrr!

So AIBU?

yanbu

next year don't ask her and just buy them something.

She probably is trying to control, but you're enabling her by asking what she and your siblings-in-law want! Just buy them what you think they'd like next time!

You are right or may give a goat next year! I gave them xmas cards today (from oxfam) and they said "ohh dont the look old, are they leftover from last year?!" No they are bloody recycled shall I explain what that is!
They are the most uncharitable people!
Thanks guys, thought I was BU for a second!
