Xmas + mil + presents

chibi · 15/12/2009 13:42

Mil wants dh to drive to hers to pick up the dcs presents - 200 miles there, 200 back. He said no as we are going up to visit just after xmas anyway. She is livid.
Who is being unreasonable- her for expecting him to be a courier or him for refusing?

PeRsonally i am that she would demand this.

She is being unreasonable. If the DCs still believe in FC she just needs to say 'FC heard me talking about you and must have left your presents here by mistake'. If they don't believe then there's no need for your DH to trawl all the way there and back to pick up a few parcels.
Can he suggest it'll be just like Christmas Day all over again at hers when you all open your presents?

Kathyis12feethighandbites · 15/12/2009 13:46

She's insane. If it was important to her for them to get their presents on Xmas day she should have bought them something small enough to post, or got you to buy them on her behalf.

titchy · 15/12/2009 13:47

I'd be livid too why can't she post them? Can you pay if she think's it'll cost too much?

Jamieandhismagictorch · 15/12/2009 13:47

MILIBU

kinnies · 15/12/2009 13:47

yanbu

JjandtheBean · 15/12/2009 13:49

FGS!!!!

why, why?

my two are having all off the in laws pressies after the actual day, no one cares, i think its actually nice being spread out!

chibi · 15/12/2009 13:56

this is what i thought but she had such a rage-on that i thought maybe dh was BU.

she is kind of an xmaszilla, last year was ghastly.

your MIL is a looper. Tell her to get a courier ffs.

Unless it is a weirdy way to get to see your DH before xmas which is a whole diff issue.

OtterInaSkoda · 15/12/2009 13:59

Bizarre. Ds (and me, and dp) will get and give the ILs' gifts after the day. Tis no beig deal - if anything it prolongs the fun. Like those sprays you can probably get at Ann Summers.

FabIsGettingReadyForChristmas · 15/12/2009 14:01

MIL ia BU

er, post office will deliver...

AliBellandthe40jingles · 15/12/2009 14:04

Why can't she post them? How very bizarre.

fedup1981 · 15/12/2009 14:07

YANBU, she sounds a bit mad and she probably enjoys the drama.

Still, think yourself lucky your dh is on your side. If my mil says jump, dp says "how high?" He'd have been driving the 400 mile round trip the very next day and it'd be me who would be the bad guy for suggesting it's a waste of petrol. What? I'm not bitter.

Kathyis12feethighandbites · 15/12/2009 14:08

How much would 400 miles worth of petrol come to?

merrycompo · 15/12/2009 14:08

My two are getting inlaws pressies weekend before Xmas and my parents at new year
would never dream of saying they had to have them all on Xmas day

HeffaMerryChristmas · 15/12/2009 14:26

YANBU - what's the problem with getting presents after Christmas day? I like still having presents to look forward to after the day's over.

PfftTheMagicDragon · 15/12/2009 14:30

If she wants the children to have their presents in a timely fashion then she should have posted them and made sure they were there on time. TBH, this is one of those situations where she could just as easily be moaning that she wants them to wait to open their presents in front of her after christmas. Can't win, eh?

I do like MILIBU....is that like a grottier more miserable Malibu?

Kathyis12feethighandbites · 15/12/2009 14:32

MILIBU=fab new abbreviation for MN - will come in useful I suspect....

dreamingofsun · 15/12/2009 14:34

be thankful she lives 200 miles away and not next door! she's mad

2babyblues · 15/12/2009 14:40

YANBU. Is there another issue like she wanted you to have xmas with her?

missmama · 15/12/2009 14:59

YANBU
Trot out 'But you just have to see their little faces light up when they open them'

Rachiesparrow · 15/12/2009 15:50

200 miles? She is bonkers.

Thankyou. Methinks MILIBU will be much used (and over-used) on MN
