To cry about what DS just did?

DS1 (11) was in town with DH buying Christmas presents. They passed by a homeless guy and DS dragged DH into the nearest shop, bought him the biggest thickest jumper he could find (with his own meagre pocket money he had saved) and gave the man the present!

After realising that the bag wasn't a trick ( makes me wonder what nasty things other people have done), and DH explaining that DS just wanted to give him a present, he was so happy

I am so proud of him!

It was all his own idea, and we really are stingy with his pocket money so it wasn't a small amount to him.

so I cried. And I don't do crying over soppy things. So... AIBU?

What a lovely lovely boy. You must be very proud of him.

YouKnowStuffingIsForLunch · 12/12/2009 21:19

I just showed DS this.

He's gone purple

And I gave him an unMN-hug.

He kept saying, "They're you're friends, they're just saying it!" But I think he now believes you're just people who were touched by his actions.

He thinks it was such a small thing.

It was so big.

YouKnowStuffingIsForLunch · 12/12/2009 21:36

It's all his own fault. That'll teach him for being so kind!

Ha!

LynetteScavo · 12/12/2009 21:40

WOW! I can't imagin my DC's being so selfless!

You must be doing a fantasic job as parents!

YouKnowStuffingIsForLunch · 12/12/2009 21:46

Can I pass on a request from DS?

Sometime this week could you all be nice to someone who needs it? Could you buy a blanket or something pracical (from a charity shop) for someone on the streets? Or a bag of chips? Or a bottle of vitamins? Or anything that someone needs?

He says don't feel bad if you can't, but it made him feel very happy and it might do the same for you (paraphrased his words).

What an amazing thing to do. I bet your bursting at the seams with pride, well done to you too for raising such a lovely boy.

LynetteScavo · 12/12/2009 21:58

OK, I will do something nice.

I will buy a copy of the big issue from the Big Issue seller.

Oh, you must all think I'm such a meanie to not usually do this!

YouKnowStuffingIsForLunch · 12/12/2009 22:01

Lynette that'd be great

Thank you!

I'm going to buy lunch for someone (might end up being a very unhealthy bag of chips but I hope it'll be worthwhile)

do you know what - your son is right. when i'm in town during the week the is usually a homeless man at the bus station. Will make sure I get him something (jumper from charity shop / hot food). charity should be local & tangible rather than TV programmes trying to raise money.

LynetteScavo · 12/12/2009 22:19

Sorry to interupt, but how much is a Big Issue?

YouKnowStuffingIsForLunch · 12/12/2009 22:21

fledtoscotland you have made me it's true, charity can be giving to a large organisation doing good, or giving something needed to someone there. Both are worthwhile.

this is a very un-mumsnet thread. I can honestly for the 1st time in the years that I have been MNing, everyone is in agreement and there are far to many hugs for everyones comfort

scottishmummy · 12/12/2009 22:29
