To cry about what DS just did?

DS1 (11) was in town with DH buying Christmas presents. They passed by a homeless guy and DS dragged DH into the nearest shop, bought him the biggest thickest jumper he could find (with his own meagre pocket money he had saved) and gave the man the present!

After realising that the bag wasn't a trick ( makes me wonder what nasty things other people have done), and DH explaining that DS just wanted to give him a present, he was so happy

I am so proud of him!

It was all his own idea, and we really are stingy with his pocket money so it wasn't a small amount to him.

so I cried. And I don't do crying over soppy things. So... AIBU?

What a lovely child he sounds.
If nothing else, this will be a memory for you to cling to if he turns into a horrid teen at any point.

Pip51 · 12/12/2009 20:02

What a lovely thing to do, you must both be proud of him. Hope he has a brilliant christmas.

AmericanHag · 12/12/2009 20:02

What a wonderful, generous young man your DS is! He truly gets the real meaning of Christmas, doesn't he?

Thanks for sharing this story...I needed to hear something lovely like this today.

YouKnowStuffingIsForLunch · 12/12/2009 20:02

FiveGoMad, I would love to take the credit, but he's always been so kind-hearted. He was the kind of toddler who when given a treat would offer you some first. He's had a rough time of it in the past year, and he still thinks of others first.

Aww that is such a lovely story! If my boys turn out to have wonderful qualities like your son I will be very happy

YouKnowStuffingIsForLunch · 12/12/2009 20:04

Solidgold I've always said he's got to be a vile teen for being a perfect toddler and child.

Oh God he's going to be horrible!

Jujubean77 · 12/12/2009 20:34

Lovely

JustAnotherManicMummy · 12/12/2009 20:40

Awww what a lovely thing to do.

I wish there were more random acts of kindness - I'm going to make an effort this coming week in tribute

islandofsodor · 12/12/2009 21:02

How lovely.

An ex student of ours once took part in a fundraising concert for a very sick little girl and donated all his Christmas money £100 to the cause.

Several years later he won a place at a top but expensive performing arts college. Remebering what he had done we gave him a £500 donation towards his fees.

I hope your son gets his just rewards, he deservws it!

stillenacht · 12/12/2009 21:04

Both me and DH said Awwwwwwwwwww - what a smashing lad

YouKnowStuffingIsForLunch · 12/12/2009 21:06

Manicmummy, he would LOVE to hear that his deed inspired others to do something.

Could we all make a pledge to do something nice for someone alone this Christmas?

Buy a meal? A blanket? Something useful?

I'm going to put this in chat too, thank fab.
