To be annoyed at someone on the bf/bottle feeding forum saying that formula should only be available on prescription

That person obviously has found bf a complete and utter doddle and might not have encountered any problems with it. These comments do nothing to promote bf imo only reaffirm the stereotype of bf matrons. If formula were to only be available on prescription it would penalise those who are struggling to bf and need that extra to top up, or those who have made the choice not to bf though respecting their decision is a bit to me.

yes... she is obviously very ignorant and should try bf a new born with a 1 yr old running around with no dp!

pigletmania · 12/12/2009 18:50

Its in the breast feeding/bottle feeding section and its called flying the flag for bf. Made me so

YADNBU.

MrsMattie · 12/12/2009 18:50

There are all sorts of nutjobbers about. Just have to ignore.

ILoveChocolateKnickers · 12/12/2009 18:50

I breatsfed a newborn with a 2 year old running about and no DP, isnt impossible.

HinnyPet · 12/12/2009 18:51

Whats the stereotype of a bf matron?

pigletmania · 12/12/2009 18:51

A lot of mums find it a struggle dont get the right support and have to resort to formula like me Instead this person should channel her comments about the lack of bf support on the NHS in general instead of making horrible remarks.

spookycharlotte121 · 12/12/2009 18:53

ILove perhaps you could but i could.... dont try and drag me down coz your better than me coz i dont give a toss.

pigletmania · 12/12/2009 18:53

ones like the poster that i have highlighted who obviously find bf easy and make those sorts of comments which make myself and other mums who were in my postion feel liek rubbish.

Who was it please? I'd like to avoid that ignorant expletive from now on. Can you link? Sorry, busy cooking etc, but want to have this on threads I'm on.

Rainbowinthesky · 12/12/2009 18:55

Just skimmed read that thread but didnt the op state that there should be proper support for bf and arent bf rates far higher in the countries where it is only available on prescription? That's very different from saying you can't have it and your baby will die.

MrsMattie · 12/12/2009 18:56

I had a supportive husband and mum and breastfeeding leaflets videos, books and 'counsellors' coming out of my arse...and I still couldn't manage to bf either of my babies for more than a few weeks.

It just is a nightmare for some people.

Don't let anyone who hasn't walked in your shoes make you feel guilty.

GetDownYouWillFall · 12/12/2009 18:57

that makes me too, what about mums like me who tried desperately to BF, but whose DD refused to suck?
Or who happen to be on medication that would pass into their breastmilk?
Grrr

Rainbowinthesky · 12/12/2009 18:57

She also said that as it is a medical necessity it should be on prescription so that it doesnt have to be paid for. I dont get what's so controversial and why she deserves a slagging on this thread...

pigletmania · 12/12/2009 18:57

Is this all true? I'm shocked. I just don't get why formula is even allowed to be sold.

This is her comment on an article that she has put in her post. i think that it says it all really.

OP posts:
Brunettelady · 12/12/2009 18:58

I bottle fed and with everything I read I feel like a second class citizen because 'breast is best' and as I didn't do it, I didn't give my baby the best. Pisses me right off. YADNBU.

Breast feeding is being promoted so much, its making mums who bottle feed feel like they are inferior when we are bloody well not.

MrsMattie · 12/12/2009 18:58

She sounds like a loon. Why not just put her on ignore?

pigletmania · 12/12/2009 18:59

It still has to be paid for on prescription unless you are exempt i.e. on income support, jobseekers etc

Lol - I love that attitude. I just had a baby and desperately tried to breastfeed him, feeling like a total failure when he wouldnt latch on and NOONE not even the breastfeeding councellor could get him to latch on, despite trying again and again until my nipples were sore, i was sick of being grabbed and the baby was so hungry he was dehydrated.

Imagine my surprise when I was told ONLY AFTER A WEEK that he had a tongue tie that would need to be SLICED to breast feed - urrggghhh no. And then when I started expressing to give him the goodness I got mastitis so badly I was shaking with fever in bed for a day and a half. I went out for the first time yesterday and the amount of tuts I got from ignorant people wondering why I was formula feeding.

Breastfeeding is NOT easy, is NOT a doddle and should not be a little competition for women to beat each other with.

Rainbowinthesky · 12/12/2009 19:00

Breastfeeding doesnt get promoted that much whereas formula companies spend an awful lot of money on promoting forumla. Let's not forget how poor breastfeeding rates are in this country.

pigletmania · 12/12/2009 19:00

the very mention of putting it on prescription does her no favours really it make me feel if she does not want to be attacked she should not put those types of comments up then!

OP posts:
Rainbowinthesky · 12/12/2009 19:00

Prescriptions for children are free.

pigletmania · 12/12/2009 19:01

i have said in my response to her the same here and to put those types of comments will get peoples backs up i am afraid especially as its a really sensitive subject to a lot of people here.

OP posts:
Rainbowinthesky · 12/12/2009 19:02

Why is it there is so much moaning about having to bring your own formula into hospitals and then moaning when it's suggested it should be free??

reup · 12/12/2009 19:02

surely if on prescription it would be either in your name so free for a year after the baby born. Or on your childs names and kids have free prescriptions.
