to think my DC's school is mean for telling pupils nobody voted for them?

My DC's school are doing a xmas "X factor" for the end of term. (think programme is a load of rubbish myself but aware I am in minority ). With heats within classes, judges elected from each class and a final on the last day of term. A really big thing in the school (primary) and all the kids full of talk about it.

Both my DC have been coming home with tales of woe about how various children had been in tears because nobody/hardly anyone had voted for them. Including my DS who said "no one in my class likes me because I didn't get any votes to be a judge" . Apparently there have been ballot boxes and the teachers had been reading out exactly how many votes each child had got.

AIBU to think the school were mean and insensitive to give exact figures like this when they could have just announced winners?

Sounds horrible to me but unsurprising considering how immune everyone seems to have become to this kind of big Brother / X-Factor type shite that we are all fed constantly through the media...
