What happens? Why can you never find a lid that fits????

This is the precise reason I fecked all mine out into the bin over the summer. The lids are in that secret place with the pens and the other sock.

I hope they are all having a nice time wherever they go. I even have a special cupboard for my plastic containers and they still disappear into thin air.

And I though it was just me !

I have recently made myself an odd sock drawer. it works very well because I never come across odd socks when looking for pairs. all the pairs in one drawer. odd ones out of sight. you are making me think that I should have a spare tupperware/lid drawer.

MamaLazarou · 11/12/2009 11:39

YANBU. Every now and again, I sort through all the tupperware containers and throw away any mis-matching lids and tubs. I then have a set of perfectly matching containers for, oooh, about 5 minutes. Then, as soon as I need one NOTHING FITS ANYTHING.

BalloonSlayer · 11/12/2009 11:40

If you keep them with their lids on, bizarrely enough they don't take up any more room and it helps a bit.

Only a bit though

BalloonSlayer · 11/12/2009 11:42

When you say "made yourself an odd sock drawer," hatwoman, do you mean you did a bit of carpentry. [impressed emoticon]

We have an odd sock place as well, and from time to time there is a flicker of contentment to be had from going through it and pairing 'em up. There are still the "old lags" that have been in there for 18 months with no sign of parole though.

I definitely need a bit of an amnesty of boxes and lids. Think I'll make that my weekend job.

Hassled · 11/12/2009 11:47

Abandon all tupperware. Have a load of takeaways and build up a healthy collection of little plastic boxes instead. That way all lids fit all boxes.

And do you, like me, have one enormous lid, and one enormous tub, but the lid is a rectangle and the tub is a square?

Buddleja · 11/12/2009 11:59

YANBU!! I too have a cupboard for my boxes (well half of one) drives me potty. Seriously where are they!!! I've taken to putting the lids on the boxes before storing them and yet still it happens - though at a slower rate.

I also have in my airing cupboard a bag into which I put all odd socks. thought I was the cleverest person alive when I started this little project. Odd socks in and next round of laundry empty bag and match up the odd ones. Did it work? Did it hell - I've now just got an overflowing bag of odd socks there.

Hmmm maybe because I've lessened the amount of Tupperware lids that go missing the I've shifted the ration and the number of odd socks increase

Lovecat · 11/12/2009 13:20

Oh, I feel for you! I too have a plastic box cupboard and NOTHING matches! Now I've got a cleaner my house is relatively tidy, so where the hell did they all go/are they hiding?

DH is the only one with odd sock issues, he waits til he only has 2 matching pairs, then chucks the lot and buys 10 more pairs from M&S...

I've put DD2 in charge of lids and boxes, so I airily pile them all up in a corner till they start to fall onto the floor, then make her sort it all out

PuppyMonkey · 11/12/2009 19:26

Yes, we tried the takeaway containers alternative for several months. Then the bleddy takeaway slightly changed its boxes, so all I kept getting was one of the old boxes and one of the new lids. And they didn't fit together. Feckers.

I have the National Collection of lids but no boxes. It is a marriage made in heaven.
