And before you start on me I am guilty of this.

I always quite liked Cath Kidston stuff but as soon as I became a mum I saw it as a perfect excuse to go and buy one of her oil skin bags and some flowery mugs.

I think that when we become mums we struggle with our identity a bit and some labels define our new status.

I have sold my breast feeding tops and am starting to get back into my pre pregnancy style a bit more now but it's taken a year.

YANBU... snap

ProfYaffle · 11/12/2009 13:11

tbh, I'd never heard of the Boden/Cath Kidtson/Emma Bridgewater stuff til I started using MN, didn't start using MN til I had children, ergo ....

santaschristmascakeywakey · 11/12/2009 13:17

I have just ordered my first Boden item today from their sale. Had never really heard of it until people started calling David Cameron part of the 'Boden classes'. I am so far removed from that though! Kept seeing it namechecked on here though, so though it was worth taking a peek.

I get a bit about people namechecking Jonnie Boden on here though, as if they know him. Although, maybe they do!

ClaraJo · 11/12/2009 13:22

It's my DDs and their friends who are into Cath Kidston in a massive way. Me, I own nothing with her name on it (nope, not even one of the Tesco carrier bags ;))

wearthefoxhat · 11/12/2009 13:26

I'd never heard of them til I had children! I must have had my head in a bag

My sister "met" (meaning saw in a crowd at Longleat) Johnnie Boden, and very nearly (but not quite) rose to the top of her social circle

Helewise · 11/12/2009 13:26

Yes, I too only got into Cath Kidston and Boden after having children.

Yanbu

ClaraJo · 11/12/2009 13:28

Thing is, I can't afford Cath Kidston and Boden AFTER having children!!

EldonAve · 11/12/2009 13:29

I would never have bought Boden prekids as I had plenty of time to shop in person

I'd still prefer to visit Oxford St and the Kings Rd weekly instead of buying online

it's cause you're all taken in with lifestyle magazines most of you probably have large letters spelling out words in your pristine white kitchens too

RockBird · 11/12/2009 13:44

Had CK stuff pre-kids but hadn't even heard of Boden until I came here. All Boden stuff is horrible so no danger of me scrimping and saving to afford it. Am less enamoured with CK now but do like her wallets and purses, of which I have several...

chocolaterabbit · 11/12/2009 13:48

Pre-kids I only had 4 weeks holiday a year so no point in buying Boden as it wasn't the kind of stuff I could ever wear to work. After I had DD, I was thrilled to be out of maternity clothes but completely incapable of fitting into anything else so bought some new stuff from Boden, partly because of the good returns policy.

Similar thing after the birth of DS but this time I went to Sainsburys.

Bonsoir · 11/12/2009 13:50

Not odd at all. YABVU. Every job requires different clothing - lots of women wear Prada, Jil Sander etc every day in their high-flying pre-baby business lives and have absolutely no need for Boden and Cath Kidston.

Spectroscopy · 11/12/2009 17:16

I don't think I had ever heard of them before I had kids!

YABU!

I only use Boden now because it is mail order and I don't have time/cannot be bother to go to the shops. I definately don't view it as a 'label'.

Kath Kidson, never bought anything. If I did I think it would have more to do with being a thirty something with a disposable higher income than being a mum though.

TisTheSeasonToBeHully · 11/12/2009 17:18

It's really really odd.

traceybath · 11/12/2009 17:20

Age is also a factor - and as Bonsoir said the role you have.

Would never have worn boden when in my 20's in my job.

However the plainer bits are fine for being at home with small children.

ssd · 11/12/2009 17:21

I find it weird that people get into Boden and Cath Kidson AT ALL

kif · 11/12/2009 17:26

I find Cath Kidston a bit creepy for this very reason...

... those expensive co-ordinated oil skin bags with the children's-book prints... some mixed signals going on there I think

MamaLazarou · 11/12/2009 17:32

I'm shouldering with ssd - can't stand any of that shit.

DC1 is due in January...

tethersjinglebellend · 11/12/2009 17:38

Let's be honest, people lose their mind after having children.

As long as you seek help, and admit you have a problem, buying from either Cath Kidson or Boden need not mean the end.

There is help out there.

MamaLazarou, I will stage an intervention should you start buying from either outlet. I promise, I won't let them take you.

grenadine · 11/12/2009 17:58

how long has Boden been around though?....maybe its coincidental that it was founded when we had children. Isn't the cath kidston stuff fairly recent too.

MrsMattie · 11/12/2009 18:00

Boden - puke.
Cath Kidston - same.

Is it the law that you have to start dressing like a batty geograhy teacher and making cupcakes once you've got kids?

poshsinglemum · 11/12/2009 21:07

My strange post natal behaviour,

Baking cupcakes, buying things with pictures of cupcakes on them, spending too much time on here, becoming obsessed with anything to do with babies, home-making in general. Behaving like I was a 1950's housewife even though I am not a wife.

yes -I well and truly lost it!

BelleDameSansTurkey · 11/12/2009 21:11

I have some Cath Kidston summer stuff but would never, ever have have bought it pre-child.

I think Boden is "yummy mummy" uniform. Can't do that look - hair not shiny enough or in a bob!

pispirispisloveschristmas · 11/12/2009 22:01

I really like mini Boden but can only afford to buy a few things on ebay. As for their stuff for women, not my style generally, but I do really like a lot of their coats.

Cath Kidston - yuk yuk yuk! And weird, frankly.
