And before you start on me I am guilty of this.

I always quite liked Cath Kidston stuff but as soon as I became a mum I saw it as a perfect excuse to go and buy one of her oil skin bags and some flowery mugs.

I think that when we become mums we struggle with our identity a bit and some labels define our new status.

I have sold my breast feeding tops and am starting to get back into my pre pregnancy style a bit more now but it's taken a year.

Loving the idea of edible glitter! Much more fun than gilded pears

Only discovered boden after having DS1 -for kids clothes as it turns out they are pretty indestructible. Think have only bought one item -a black jumper - for myself from there... not really my style (in as much as I have one) but can see how would appeal to an awful lot of people

WillowFae · 13/12/2009 22:31

I'd not heard of them till after having kids. Have fallen in love though with a dress for DD but it is £20 On the plus side at 2 she is tiny and never seems to outgrow her clothes!

Time2Hibernate · 13/12/2009 22:37

I like some of both. But Boden just doesn't look good on me (or I don't look right in it) so regardless I will only buy what I like and not go by a label.

WildSheepChase · 13/12/2009 22:51

I'm not a Boden customer, but that's mainly due to finances tbh.

I am, however, an unapologetic CK fan, and was so before I had children. Both myself and the Hubby are Nordic/shabby chic sluts. Not a cupcake in sight, mind.

Rollmops - David Cameron has talked in interviews about his better half shopping Boden for him - "that catalogue company". So they both wear it, at least for their dress-down holiday photo opportunities.

Funnily enough, an close school/University friend of Cameron's is married to Boden's marketing director, Victoria Andreae.

If i could afford Boden, this would put me off!

Tryharder · 10/01/2010 23:43

I like the kids stuff but would never buy new - could never justify anything so expensive that they will just spill stuff down. I live in the rough end of an otherwise "posh" Bodenesque town and there's loads of Mini Boden stuff kicking around in the nicer charity shops and PTA jumble sales.

well i'm with riven on this one.
i'd never heard of boden till i went on mumsnet and i'd never heard fo cath kidston till this thread.
given that i consider next children's clothes too expensive unless they are in a second hand sale i think i am probably priced out of the boden market but not too sad about it.
i assume the stuff has a 'look' but as i am not very fashion conscious at all i wouldn't know what that is.
i don't expect 15 month DD will notice she is in asda clothes and given that my clothes usually have her food on them i don't care too much about mine either (although probably should for self-esteem boosting purposes)
perhaps i should get off this thread

I can't justify spending money on CK stuff when I have bags of original vintage fabric upstairs, and can sew.I quite like Boden, but it is too expensive new-I got a green knitted Boden dress from the Sally Army last week for £6,which looks lovely on.

Back in my 20's I was a bit of a Goth and either made my own clothes or bought them in dark, patchouli smelling shops.
