Years back there was a Kilroy programme on the efects having a stupid name had on peoples lives and self esteem. I remember one woman was called Crystal Chandelier, and another whose last name was Lake was called Lochness. but can't help

MaggieNollaig · 10/12/2009 22:24

i quite like klee! could be short for clio

kayleigh is so blah.

I used to work with an american girl called JC. I assumed it was Jacey. No, JC. Like, as in Jesus Christ? arghgh That's not relevant, why did i share that?

MaggieNollaig · 10/12/2009 22:25

ps, does the registrar have any power to say 'that's a bad choice folks'??

I think they should have the power to say, ummm, I'm going to have to do some research on that.

MaggieNollaig · 10/12/2009 22:26

2kidzandi, there is a family in Ireland and their sur name is Berry. They have a Briony, Holly, Laurel, Rowan and there is another one as well. I've forgotten.

Would that be slammed on the mm names board???

choccyp1g · 10/12/2009 22:33

The Berry family could gave done a lot worse:
Straw
Black & Blue (twins?)
Elder
Goose

MaggieNollaig · 10/12/2009 22:38

yeah! they weren't trying hard enough! Goose is my favourite

l39 · 10/12/2009 22:56

Perhaps they were just playacting to scandalise the other passengers?

My dh longs to turn up at a supermarket checkout with a trolley of alcohol and a packet of nappies, pretend he can't afford the lot - and put the nappies back - just for the amusement value...

Greensleeves · 10/12/2009 23:04

I think the Berry names are lovely, if my surname was Berry I would do that

Greensleeves · 10/12/2009 23:05

l39 that is a fucking BRILLIANT idea, I am going to dare my dh to do that

l39 was the name of my first year classroom at the school I got kicked out of

ItsAllaBitNoisy · 10/12/2009 23:18

Lol @ changing the name to sensible ones when they hit their teens.

Siouxsie and the Banshees were rather popular when I was a nightmare teenager. (Yes, my name was Susy )

cory · 10/12/2009 23:47

"there are a couple of celebs who have named their kids 'Seven'."

Septimus, in other words. Just like an 18th century clergyman. Thus the whirligig of time...

nappyaddict · 11/12/2009 00:17

I know sisters called Shaynie-Leigh and Shayla-Kia and a brother and sister called Darren and Karen and Matthew (Matt) and Natalie (Nat)

CardyMow · 11/12/2009 00:17

Hmmmm...my DS2 has what could be classed as an unusual spelling of a (fairly old fashioned Irish name), but the spelling is actually the same as his grandad's. The spelling of my DS2's name has raised eyebrows from lots of people outside my family, though.

CardyMow · 11/12/2009 00:19

And my first boyfriend, I kid you not, was called Joseph King, and as a teen I hung around with a bloke called Wayne Kerr. (He changed his name to Craig as soon as he was old enough!)

BitOfFun · 11/12/2009 00:35

A really good friend of mine's surname was Berry, and her son is Rowan. The did choose to give him his dad's surname though.

spookycharlotte121 · 11/12/2009 00:36

lol my best friend works with a guy called billy fortune.... i think its an amazing name!

my personal favourate has to be a kid in dcs nursery called "fox" and i havent a clue if its a boy or a girl.

borderslass · 11/12/2009 05:58

a woman near us has girls called Angel and Justice and a boy called acer.

Adair · 11/12/2009 06:52

Asa is a Hebrew name (love it)

To the OP, you could easily have 'butted in' and said 'oh Kayleigh, what a beautiful name, is that your baby, aw. I think it's spelt... let me write it down for you'

Littlefish · 11/12/2009 07:00

I've taught a "Talon" and a "Prince".

JoeyBettany · 11/12/2009 07:20

I know a woman named Squirrel.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 11/12/2009 08:41

I think registrars have the power to decline a spelling. I vaguely remember someone I worked with whose grandson was born. Parents wanted to call him two initials (let's say BJ for comedic value), it had to be able to be written so he ended up as Bee Jay.
In Thailand my dd went to school with a Cream, Mint, Nokia, Golf, Tang Tang, Ting Ting and Tong Tong. She was always very and about her dull british name.

HerBeatitude · 11/12/2009 09:01

LOL who was that bloke who produced a biography title for Roald Dahl which was "My father couldn't spell Ronald"?

MamaLazarou · 11/12/2009 09:08

Fox is on my shortlist for DS1.

Klee will probably just change it to something more reasonable as soon as she is old enough to realise how ridiculous it is.

LOVING Superman! I know it's daft, but if you were a little boy, wouldn't you want to be called Superman?

Far better than being one of a million IMO.

MumsieNonna · 11/12/2009 09:27

LOL at that poor child called '79 Bus Shelter'. I wonder if it was where he/she was conceived? Like Posh's 'Brooklyn'. And Sarah Palin's kid in US has the unfortunate name of 'Bristol' - where I come from it means tit.

Chica31 · 11/12/2009 09:45

I taught a Kayti.
