I live in a council flat, am as cockney as they come, swear like an old docker, and like a good row, just think that I'm a bit of a fish out of water on here sometimes.

me?
am double hard, also skilled with a sabre

TheFoosa · 09/12/2009 15:56

I am common but live somewhere posh

Hullygully · 09/12/2009 15:56

Well don't rattle it at me or I shall send in the Guards and they will make short work of you. Then we shall put your head on a pikestaff to forewarn any other upstarts.

notanumber · 09/12/2009 15:57

May I shed some light on the teenspeak confusion?

As I understand it, 'bare' is used a prefix to indicate 'very'. For example:

"That detention was bare tight"

"Stacey Solomon is bare nang*.

I've always thought it's amusingly close to the way very posh people pronounce 'very' ("vare")

'Sick' means 'good'. Used in much the same context as I used 'wicked' and 'skill' in the eighties.

*'nang' also means good.

PuppyMonkey · 09/12/2009 15:59

Ah, that's interesting notanumber cos I read it as verr verr, as in posh talk on that first post and then realised I'd got it wrong.

MeltedTreeChocolates · 09/12/2009 16:02

I am 'posh' apparently.

Those who actually know me though think I am common as muck

MrsMattie · 09/12/2009 16:04

lol!@notanumber.

The current teen slang is really funny. Are you familiar with 'par'? That's my current favourite. People get 'parred' on MN all the time, especially in AIBU.

teameric · 09/12/2009 16:05

My DS thought it was "bear" too, he's obviously not as cool and "street" as he thought he was bless him

i think your too fucking common to be on here. sling yer hook

Hullygully · 09/12/2009 16:07

Don't you mean 'ook? You are faux common.

Tortington · 09/12/2009 16:09

you're right i am deffo not common.

CheerfulYank · 09/12/2009 16:19

I'm the American version of common, I sez.

Kids here don't say "bare" but they do say sick. All...the...effin...TIME. "Yeah that's sick," "it's sick man," "she's so hot it's sick," etc. Makes me sick, actually.

Hullygully · 09/12/2009 16:21

You are definitely common, Cheerful. You like nasty common food...

CheerfulYank · 09/12/2009 16:23

Graham crackers...good! Marshmallows...good! Chocolate...good! I fail to see how there's a problem here.

teameric · 09/12/2009 16:47

are Twinkies common CheerfulYank?, I tasted one when I was in the states, (always wanted to try one after watching Grease) must say I was most disappointed.

CommonNortherner · 09/12/2009 17:43

fluffy123 · 09/12/2009 17:53

Chav is my middle name

DownheartedDaisy · 09/12/2009 18:00

Nah, you fit in just fine. But God forbid you should have money to spend and kids in private school. Thats when you'll feel the wrath of Mnetters.

sparklefrog · 09/12/2009 18:00

CheerfulYank I just choked on my coke there. That was too funny.

poshsinglemum · 09/12/2009 18:26

YANBU!

I say as a single mum renting a tiny house swiging special brew and inhaling silk cuts.

I jest about the drink and fags btw.

MaggieNollaig · 09/12/2009 19:03

I obviously don't mix with young people, or cool people! as in the phrase 'bare nang' i don't understand bare and i don't understand nang.

hmmmm

i feel disconnected today. Generally. i have a new phone and i can't work it. it has no buttons fgs.

clam · 09/12/2009 19:13

Common's fine. Just don't put any apostrophes in the wrong place.

scottishmummy · 09/12/2009 19:25

should fit in nicely here all the potty mouth irascible mums.that's what makes it fun you know

Jamieandhismagictorch · 09/12/2009 19:53

clam Shouldn't it be Mum's Net. Or possible Mums' Net ?

Pikelit · 09/12/2009 20:22

I am a Southerner with various middle class accoutrements. I cannot, with honesty, admit to being common. I am Very Hard Indeed though.
