Just returned from some time away with the extended family where SIL (she's lovely enough but....) complained or had a problem every day because she's afraid of so many things!

Heights (then why choose rock climbing?)
Splashing Water (stay off the water slide)
Spiders (log cabin probably wasn't the greatest idea) and also cannot eat anything that contains dairy because of her 'IBS' (but she drinks milk, eats mayo & butter) Just say you don't like cheese!!!

In addition to that, MIL has 1 sugar plus half a sweetner in her tea, have you tried cutting one of those titchy little things in half??

Awkward! Awkward, irritating people!!

Glad to be home for a cup of tea with one, normal sugar and a bloody great cheese sandwich in my rooftop swimming pool!

hahahha

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 08/12/2009 20:47

is this just a way to inform us all that you have a rooftop swimming pool ?

Brunettelady · 08/12/2009 20:49

One sugar plus half a sweetner?! WTF is that about? Ha ha ha.

And yes, why go rock climbing if you are afraid of heights? Did you ask her why?

addictedtolatte · 08/12/2009 20:50

oh yes i have one of them inlaws i cant say which 1 thou because she/he knows my nickname. i end up turning to drink when she/he has gone home. they are so depressing.

MrsMattie · 08/12/2009 20:52

I hate heights and spiders, too, I'm afraid.

And I don't 'do' rock climbing, ski-ing, horse-riding or any outdoorsy type stuff! I find it all scary and hard!

And I'm scared of rodents and most dogs. In fact, I'm not keen on any animals really.

I don't much like the dark, either.

I could go on...

pmsl@ half a sweetner, though!

hobbgoblin · 08/12/2009 20:52

Hmmmm

Dunno 'bout multiple phobias but on the subject of sugaring tea; my mother has one spoon of regular sugar and then a spoon of that half n half stuff

Wolliw · 08/12/2009 20:54

Phobias are really serious and can cause people a great deal of distress. All the more reason not to make them up just because you don't like something.

I'm nearly vegan: No dairy, yes eggs. This is my choice. I don't expect to be accomodated graciously everything when I'm such a fussy bugger.

I'd lie to you MIL and give her half a sugar and a whole sweetener.

So you are not being unreasonable, though the title is misleading.

Astrid28 · 08/12/2009 20:55

ha ha! of course I don't have a rooftop swimming pool - I bloody wish - the perfect hiding place!!

lol astrid, only teasing ya

I wonder why she agreed to go on this type of holiday in the 1st place ?

I have a phobia of deep water, so would never for example, take a diving course

I could never hack it for a million quid

Astrid28 · 08/12/2009 20:57

I'm glad people think it's weird about the sweetner! The SIL also has one and a half sweetners! I was begining to think I was strange for sugaring in round numbers.....

Anyway, I just gave them whole ones and they can blame me for the one millionth of a pound they probably put on because of my sabotage!! hehehe!

OMG @ half a sweetener! Yes, half a sugar and a whole sweetener sounds much more sensible. I refuse to make FIL coffee as he has such a weird set of exacting instructions, in fact he is so bad MIL refuses, too!

I fully accept that people have preferences and dislikes/phobias but I have no idea why some people feel we need to know ALL of them and repeat them often.

MIL (it would be wouldn't it - she is very nice though) every single time anyone mentions swimming (and DS and I go at least twice a week) has to tell us that she cannot swim and go on and on about it. After the 500th time I mentioned about the adult swimming lessons (in a nice way) but she clearly had no interest in them, I guess because she prefers all the attention of not being able to swim . We actively avoid mentioning anything about swimming now

Ah well you are home now
