To kick up a fuss about porn magazines displayed in full view of children in our local co-op?

Every time I go into this shop, which is most week days, this really annoys me but today I actually made a complaint to the shop assistant because the manager wasn't there.

She fobbed me off a bit but tbh didn't want to get into a big debate with her as ultimately it isn't her fault.

I'm not entirely sure what the laws says about the display of adult magazines but these are on the shelve above all the childrens comics!

Have tried searching the internet but haven't managed to find any info although I'm sure they are surposed to be displayed away from the view of children.

It is the top shelf but their top shelf isn't very high. DD is 10 and 5ft in these magazines are right in her eye line.

I am considering writing the the head office of the co-op to complain about this.

What do you think??

Just scoop them all up and move them yourself. The manager would appear pretty quickly then I think.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 08/12/2009 16:15

do it

not enough people complain about this

once you start making a stand (I did this recently in my Tesco Local), you will be surprised how many others will speak up too

This used to be our local newsagents. He became somewhat of a local celebrity because of his refusal to sell porn in his shop. Interesting read, actually, as WH Smith make a lot of money out of porn, which is sickening, really.

Start a petition - or threaten to. Not enough people make a stand against this.

HugeBaublesWhatDidISayRoy · 08/12/2009 16:23

YANBU - they should not be visible to children.

Even when they are on the top shelf , they always seem to have my dh golfing mags next to them, and i hate it when i have to get the golf mag because i feel like an old perve

memoo · 08/12/2009 16:29

Glad its not just me! When I spoke to the shop assistant she looked at me like I had two heads but another shop assistant agreed with me and said she wouldn't want her grandson seeing mags like that either

StayFrostyTheSnowMam, thats excellent thanks! I will definately use that.

Is it the proper co-op? If so I'm shocked.

memoo · 08/12/2009 16:42

Yep the proper co-op! And you couldn't miss these mags.

They were right at the front of this shelf too, on full display. In front of mags on cross stitching! No word of a lie!

I'd write to the management of the co-op then. That's really out of order.

memoo · 08/12/2009 16:47

I'm going to write to the manager of the store and email the Chief Exec of the co-op Martin Beaumont.

our local co-op has a case thing attached to the top shelf that all the dodgy mags sit in
