the bloody gas heating has broken down after only getting its annual servicing last week & the gas company dont have any weekend cover so i have been told i have to wait until monday then phone them again to arrange for someone to come out to fix it , i wouldn't mind but i am paying extra every month for break down cover they never told me it didn't cover weekends . dd is sick with a cold & chest infection atm ,
aibu to think they should have some one to help when things like this happen at weekends ?
sorry for the rant

which company is it? sounds pretty shite given that the gas boilers can't tell when it's a weekend or not

Lauriefairyonthetreeeatscake · 05/12/2009 16:34

rant away, I had no heating this week as was getting a new system and it took four days to install

Its beyond ridiculous that it doesn't cover weekends, switch to the British gas one seeing as your paying already.

the eco electric blanket from Argos is amazing at £22 - it only cost a penny a day to run! I've had mine on all week.

Do you have any plug in radiators ? Years ago when poor I set a hairdryer going and one of those heat guns that melt gloss paint - it heated up the room but is of course beyond dangerous.

have you a gas hob you can just set going in the kitchen - I've spent all week in there with the hob running.

that's ridiculous. Did you tell them you have a sick child?

Can you have a snuggle on the couch evening with lots of blankets to try and all keep warm (have you got hot water bottles)?

biggirlsdontcry · 05/12/2009 16:43

yes i explained that dd is sick but all the girl on the phone said was that i would have to wait until Monday as their repair men don't work weekends , i told her that in this day & age they really should have help for people in emergencies , no hot water bottles unfortunately , but do have lots of blankets , no plug in heaters either .

what is annoying too is that they can't book the repair now. Could you phone back and say 'ok fine (you eejits), no-one is coming out this weekend but at least book me a slot first thing Monday morning?'

biggirlsdontcry · 05/12/2009 16:58

fox i said that to her on the phone already , but she told me that she does not work in the repair section therefore could not book me in , i would have to phone back Monday agggggghhhhhhhhhhhh , they are unbelievable .

lol, great! makes you wonder why she even bothers answering the phone really doesn't it!

biggirlsdontcry · 05/12/2009 16:59

going to look up the phone book for a plumber as i can afford for dd's chest to get any worse waiting for monday .

good luck with that one - plumbers round here will a) probably not even answer on a weekend and b)not be available in the near future.

biggirlsdontcry · 05/12/2009 17:12

yeeeeeeessssssssssss its fixed i rang a plumber that lives near me , i explained everything to him & he talked me through how to find the re-set button etc , the minute i pressed it the boiler lit up & he gave me his mobile number in case it goes again on me tomorrow , ahh what a sweetie .
thanks for the sympathy fox

laurie no heating for a week you must have been numb with the cold .

this is why we always keep the chimney swept! have a chimney put in if you don't have one- the traditional is by far the most reliable!
