The following interjection from RL is inspired by Gibbon's post at 13.15 (for the sake of argument, I am ignoring Tethers' briefer suggestion along the same lines at 11.36 - sorry, Tethers).
Many Some years ago, when I was about 6 years old, my parents were temporarily financially embarrassed (thank you, Mr Micawber). A rent collection Person appeared at the front door. I was despatched to deal with him, prompted by my mother to say: 'Mummy is not at home.'
(I'm sure you can all see what happened.) I opened the door and told the Person: 'Mummy says she isn't at home.'
This action may have had one of 2 consequences:
either the Person laughed, went on his way, returned the next week and got his money;
or, erm, same as above really, except that I have this weird compulsion to tell people about what happened
Now, back to the ranch ...
