DD is 5. She is the kind of girl who likes to play with different people and doesn't have one special best friend. I've invited 3 or 4 of her frieds round for tea, and I'd thought everything had gone well, but my DD hasn't been invited back. I'm starting to worry that its something that I or my DD have done. These friends rush up to DD in the playground and are really happy to see her, so I don't think that she's fallen out with these friends.

Some parents are much better at organising having children round for tea, others not. My DS age 10 has one particular friend who never invites people back. But his parents work and it is very difficult I know. I'm sure it's nothing you or she have done

She's still only 5 - don't worry about it too much. Other parents might not be quite so organised so arrange playdates so conscientiously. I have only just arrange one play date for next week and can't believe it is nearly the end of term already.

What school year is she in? Some parents don't invite other children to tea when they are very young due to tiredness when starting school first, not being able to cope with having friends around to play due to immaturity, etc. Or they may have older children who do lots of after school activities. Or they just might want to relax when they get home and not feel like having another child in the house.

And tbh often parents invite around the offspring of people they are friendly with themselves. Maybe for now concentrate on getting to know the other families better at the school gates. If your dd wants to see other children after school you could organise a get-together at the park or soft-play for all the class?

It's probably the parents - I was on mat leave last year, and DD1 had a friend round roughly once every half-term. I went back to work in July and I haven't managed to organise myself even once since then

Also, one little girl who came round, her mother explained, slightly shame-facedly, that the only two afternoons she doesn't work, her DD had ballet and swimming, so couldn't really have friends round. Was nice to have the explanation, TBH, as otherwise I'd have felt a bit like you.
