to expect ebay clothes to be washed

i bought what i thought was a lovely little item for dd from ebay, opened up the package and out came one very knackered dress. i don't mind a few bobbles, but there are more of them than there is dress and it was accompanied by a ripe fruity smell the type you get walking past a bin on a hot day is it too much to expect people to wash items before selling them and to distinguish between when a piece of clothing is used or has completely snuffed it?

tbh sg this is why I stopped buying children's clothes from ebay. Some came in beautiful condition, others had evidently been trawled for in the local charity shop, photographed, bundled together in a carrier bag and just posted when the winning bid came in.

Did it say anything about washing on the advert.

YANBU in my opinion.

I hate it when that happens, YANBU, I wouldn't sell anything unless it had been washed and ironed first.

Sadly a lot of sellers don't do the same.

YANBU, and that is gross. I bought a winter coat on ebay recently and it is lovely, but did come absolutely covered in cat hair which really annoyed me. The seller insisted she 'normally' cleaned things but was dealing with ill parents etc at the time...I let it go, but would complain more another time. Definitely lodge a complaint.

And I love cats and have one!

Funnily enough though, she doesn´t tend to hang off the coat hooks in the hall, or get into wardrobes with closed doors!

I bought some jeans once which stank of some horrid fanny type smell in the bottom area. Awful it was.

you'd think so wouldnt you? I learnt my lesson last year when I bought some maternity clothes as I thought I would try and save money. Out of the whole bundle I think I kept one or two things the rest got chucked in the bin. I wouldn't give stuff away in that condition never mind sell it I've put better in the bin!

Never again...

On a similar note I never believed what crap people gave dumped to charity shops until I watched that programme in the summer about the woman who went to sort out the charity shops. Some people are just gross

YANBU. I have twice bought utterly minty items from ebay - one a pair of trousers that were fit for the bin - well-worn and stank of fags, and the other a suit that was not only a totally different colour from the description but looked as though it had received daily wear since approx 1983. Yuk. I still buy from ebay though, but I don't spend more than I am willing to lose - in case it's stinky and grim.

As a seasoned vintage clothing buyer, I wash everything from ebay before I wear it.

My DP still won't let me forget the one I wore straight away on a hot summer's day. He calls it 'The Meat Dress'. It stank of meat . Lesson learned.

Although did buy a coat recently which had used tissues in the pocket; I posted on the ebay message board to ask if this was worthy of neg feedback or not, and I was castigated for being so ungrateful. So, no, YANBU IMO.

i won't buy clothes from Ebay. charity shops are a MUCH safer bet - you can see, feel and smell what you are buying.

Hope you didnt pay much for it.

I've always been a bit underwhelmed by the stuff I've bought on ebay. I like to think that the stuff I sell is of a lovely quality . So I'm always a little bit disappointed when something I've won is not as nice as I expected. Luckily I've not had any used tissues or fanny smells

Having said all that I've just won a boys Gap jumper last week and its lovely; gone straight in the wardrobe without a wash ! The first time I've ever been really impressed with any of my wins

I look at items of Ebay but never buy. Sorry you ended up with a stinking garment. Agree with a previous poster, at least in a charity shop you can have a good look at an item and see whether it's in good shape or not before you buy.

Internet shopping does have it's downfalls.

Carrotfly - i totally agree, most items are fine. in the past i have had a vintage patchwork that smelt smokey or the odd item that didn't look as brilliant as it did in the pic, but not together

i have never left negative feedback though, which is probably like a lot of people. going to be brave though...

I list the odd item of children's clothing on Ebay. I wash and iron each item. I spend time describing the items carefully.
This week I sold a lovely Mini Boden skirt in nearly new condition and it only fetched just over £1 which was quite disappointing.

Its depressing reading this thread and hearing how many people ebay stuff in really manky condition...it means that people are put off buying on Ebay generally and won't buy my nice things!

I hope you all left negative feedback for the garments in poor condition.

Totally it is not too much to expect at all imo, if you dont why bother listing! There are some items in such bad condition that should not be on e bay or sold, and some peoples photos are so bad that when you get the item its not like the pictures, its in very poor condition. Cant people throw away clothes that are so worn or past it that another child/person cannot wear it?
