AIBU to serve people chutney that has my blood in it?

I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this.

I'm making my second humongous batch of chutney to give people as presents for christmas. Spend a fortune on ingredients and have cut myself twice while chopping. It's currently bubbling away.

Would I be unreasonable to give people this blood tainted lot of chutney? How about if feed my family it, still unreasonable?

My finger still hasn't stopped bleeding either. Bollocks.

probably not all that bad wont do them any harm ect but it does sound pretty discusting when you say it, i definately wouldn't chuck it away though if you spent allot of money on ingredients

you · 29/11/2009 16:39

Oh, I wouldn't be telling them

ew!

use a plaster!

OrmIrian · 29/11/2009 16:40

Only to vegetarians.

Skegness · 29/11/2009 16:41

lol! Poor you- how incredibly annoying to go to all that effort for naught.

ImSoNotTelling · 29/11/2009 16:42

It's being cooked so no I wouldn't worry.

Probably best to keep the "magic" ingredient to yourself though!

MrsMellowdrummer · 29/11/2009 16:44

I'm veggie myself, but...

People eat bloody steaks all the time don't they? It can't be that much different?

As long as it wasn't an armful...

WouldYouCouldYouWithAGoat · 29/11/2009 16:46

i normally ignore chutney that people give as gifts until it is reallly old then chuck. so it really doesn't matter

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 29/11/2009 16:46

Did you actually get blood in it, or is it a possibility that a tomato might have had a smidge of blood on? Honestly, it's being very well cooked so any blood that got in there would be totally destroyed and would not even exist anymore. And you probably didn't actually get any blood in anyway.

And I'm vegetarian.

ReneRusso · 29/11/2009 16:47

Oh it's fine I guess it was only 1/2 a drop.

Skegness · 29/11/2009 16:47

Perhaps you could make a feature of it and call it Cannibal Chutney.

feralgirl · 29/11/2009 16:48

Extra protein. Yum.

pofacedandproud · 29/11/2009 16:49

heat destroys everything except vcjd, not something you'd want to give to someone [assuming you were incubating it] But presumably cooks in restaurants serve up their blood all the time. Just don't give me any

ReneRusso · 29/11/2009 16:59

skegness you made me choke on my tea

StrictlyKatty · 29/11/2009 17:42

Gross, please don't make people eat it

FabIsVeryLucky · 29/11/2009 17:45

Don't give any to me.

There is no way I would give anything to anyone with my blood in it.

HerBeatitude · 29/11/2009 17:48

Well as long as it's not menstrual blood I suppose

And yes I think just don't tell them. My initial response was OMG how vile, but actually yeah, it will be cooked and we eat bits of cooked blood in meat all the time don't we.

southeastastra · 29/11/2009 17:49

you could probably sell alot of it to vampires. they're in at the moment aren't they

Don't you have to eat brain tissue/spinal bits to get vcjd? You do with mad cow disease and isn't vcjd the human version?

Anyone saying no to dishing it out, i hope you're all vegetarian, otherwise you are being very silly.

GoddessInTheKitchen · 29/11/2009 18:12

seriously though, exactly how much blood are we talking here? honestly?

morningpaper · 29/11/2009 18:15

you bunch of GIRLS

of course it's FINE

half the food you eat is full of pesticides, pig bollocks or caterpillars

pofacedandproud · 29/11/2009 18:19

you can get vcjd from blood. But I'm sure chefs in restaurants bleed into our posh pub food all the time.

beenheretoolong · 29/11/2009 18:42

What they don't know won't hurt them.

I thought this thread was going to be about placenta chutney or something equally gross.
