...to want to treat myself on DS's birthday?

I've always maintained (since my teens) that birthdays ought to really be a celebration of the mother's sacrifice of bringing her child into the world. Well, obviously I LOVE showering DS with gifts to make him feel special, however, I think it's time to now stay true to my principles and include myself on the deal.

So. What do you think? A new handbag? A posh nail polish? Something really extravagant that would require a small mortgage?

YANBU.... hmmmm it'd be this for me... in fact it's DS's 5th bday on 21st dec... DH wont buy me the handbag for xmas as i've got some lovely new boots.... maybe i should get the bag for myself for DS's bday as it would match the boots sooooo well!!

coo. And I thought I loved presents, but I hadn't even thought of this one!

What sacrifice?

ArizonaBarker · 28/11/2009 14:23

What a topper idea!

I send my best friend flowers on her son's birthday.

SprocketAndTubbs · 28/11/2009 14:26

If only! DS was born on my Birthday and now even my pals prefer to spend the money on him, as choosing toys is way more fun than looking for girly gifts apparently!

So I don't even get spoiled on my own Birthday! - but having DS usually makes up for it!

Shit, there was supposed to be a sacrifice?

Anyone got a spare goat?

shockers · 28/11/2009 14:33

My friend's husband always sends her a rose for every year of her DC's lives on their birthdays. They're in their late teens now but she still gets them every year.

nickelbabe · 28/11/2009 15:11

i think it's a brilliant idea. you have to do it!
(but not sacrificing a goat, i think that's going a bit too far...)

My mum always insists that our birthdays are her birthdays too, so we give her a big hug and squeeze and say thank you to her (but she doesn't get a present) i'm sure she wouldn't complain if everyone gave her gifts too, after all, if it weren't for her, we wouldn't even exist.

shockers, what a lovely husband your friend has!

Sprockett (a Miami Vice fan, eh?!): grr to your friends. And grr again.

Well, I discovered some new lovely bathroom smellies at a friend's house at the weekend, so I think that will be a suitably 'me-only-but-not-too-pricey' gift. Make sure the rest of you do the same when it's your dcs' birthdays!
